The head is Christ Jesus, and Peter was only one of 12.

Matthew 16:13-18
 13.  When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
 14.  They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
 15.  "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
 16.  Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ,  the Son of the living God."
 17.  Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.
 18.  And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades  will not overcome it.
 19.  I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be  bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

Chapters and verses were invented later; as we all know...

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"   They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."   "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"  Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ,  the Son of the living God."   Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.   And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades  will not overcome it.    I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be  bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

Reading the text we can see that Jesus is talking to the GROUP of disciples; and He is answered by the impulsive one - SIMON Peter.
After dealing with SIMON Peter, He states - to the group -  "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

Catholic teaching limits this to SIMON Peter.

You forget that Christ forgive Peter.

I doubt he forgot anything.

Where and when did Peter lie?

Do you want one; or two or maybe three examples?

Jesus Christ, not Peter, is the head of His church.

Many well-educated Catholics agree.

A person is brought into full communion with the Catholic Church through reception of the three sacraments of Christian initiation—baptism, confirmation, and the holy Eucharist

Whereas a person is brought into full communion with Jesus Christ through repentance, faith, and Lordship.

So why, after 2,000 years, do you still refer to him as a liar for something he did while in fear for his life?

You guys ever hear of a fella named LUTHER??

Quotemining is the last refuge of the scoundrel.

Ignoring Scripture is the FIRST of the Catholic.

“I’m not going to delve into the theology of it, but simply read your bible, the one God gave us, and you will see for yourself.”

God gave us a Bible all bound up in leather with red edges and the words of Jesus in red and written in King James english?

Or do you mean the canon of scripture that was discerned by the councils of the Catholic Church and contained all the books of the Bible?

Quotemining is ... known as overwhelming evidence in some quarters.

The denial of Peter is indeed part of the timeline and is meaningless in this context.

It sure is!

HR>

Lotsa meaningless stuff goes on in these threads...

Pope Stephen VI (896–897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]

Pope John XII (955–964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.

Pope Benedict IX (1032–1044, 1045, 1047–1048), who "sold" the Papacy

Pope Boniface VIII (1294–1303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy

Pope Urban VI (1378–1389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]

Pope Alexander VI (1492–1503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]

Pope Leo X (1513–1521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]

Pope Clement VII (1523–1534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.

If you want to bash Catholics, go to your nearby Church.

If you want to bash PROTESTants, go to your nearbyCATHOLIC Church.

Can you show how anyone became a Christian before the Gospels were written?

Yes

...I think the "Peter the Liar" moniker is way over the top...

True; but it sure got their attention.

Mary is dead in her grave.

Over the top or not?
