Dont you believe what Jesus said?
Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. John 6:28-29
When did Christ die and when did he come out of the tomb? Specifically what days?
Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. John 6:28-29
Interesting opinion, wrong, but interesting none the less.
Prove it.
1 Corinthians 4:6 Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to exceed what is written, so that no one of you will become arrogant in behalf of one against the other.
You have been shown that before.
Undoubtedly.
... By Grace through Faith...by simply ACCEPTING God’s gift, FREELY GIVEN! What could be simpler? Give GOD the glory, the “Bragging rights,” if you will, and accept your new life in Christ. WHY do folks want to complicate things so much? God made it really simple and easy, but too many folks can’t be comfortable til they pee in it and totally change the flavor to one THEY like, instead of what GOD likes. HE’S the One who made us; WE sinned and failed Him. When He decided He was gonna offer us Redemption, it was and IS on HIS TERMS, not OURS. How difficult is that to grasp???
And other pagans.
Jesus died on a Friday (by our calendar), right at Passover celebration time, so it IS pretty well fixed. He was buried the same day, before evening fell. He arose and left the tomb on Sunday morning, the first day of the week. The times are pretty well fixed because of the Passover celebration.
He was arrested and tortured the prior evening, after He and the 12 ate their Passover dinner.
Than you Agree with the Catholic understanding of it. Sadly some of your Brethren feel he was crucified on Wednesday. You and I have no disagreement on this point. But I do hope that you will take others to task for beating the snot out of that verse claiming it is a literal 72 hours.
You keep using James 2:24 but ignore much of who he was talking to and what he said. Look for instance at what he said earlier in that chapter.
James 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
James was talking to those who were oppressing true believers. He was illustrating that true faith engenders actions that are different than what these people were showing. He was making a point. Paul clearly explains that it is faith and not works that saves but you completely ignore those Holy Spirit inspired words.
Rom. 4:5, "But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness,"
Rom. 5:1, "therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,"
Indulgences...
No, it is not.
Rom. 11:6, "But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace."
You can deny what the Holy Spirit said through Paul but it will only make you look bad. BTW Did you know that Pauls writings were already considered scripture?
2 Peter 3:15b. As also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you, according to the wisdom given him, [16] as in all his letters, speaking concerning these matters, in which some things are hard to understand, which those who are untaught and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do also THE OTHER SCRIPTURES. [17] You then, beloved ones, being forewarned, watch lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being let away with the delusion of the lawless.
That wasnt said about James at that time.
considered...
Nice post about CATHOLIC belief; but I think I asked a question that wanted to know what was WRONG with the WESLEYAN belief.
I didnt say that. And please stop using the Catholic tactic of putting words in peoples mouth. I simply said that having a PHD and understanding Greek doesnt make a person right.
Your 'musts' are a wee bit different than Jesus' 'musts'.
John 6:28
Then they asked him, What must we do to do the works God requires?
Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.
They want to be saved by Grace; but kept by Works...
Galatians 5:12
As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
