Much of what he says in his public statements appears not entirely intellectually well thought through; at times it is even totally incoherent.

Full Title: The Pope nonsensically opines that war is how the great world economies ‘keep their balance sheets in the black’. I repeat: shouldn’t he be more careful with what he says?

The pope is clearly misconstrued. Don’t call for this trickery. Who benefits from this Papalphobia?

The current Pope makes a Catholic want to become something else.

“We discard a whole generation to maintain an economic system that no longer endures, a system that to survive has to make war, as the big empires have always done,” he said.

Actual quote.

He should be a lot more careful in what he says. It is fine for the Pope to hold forth on what he believes. But the fact remains that he has a very distorted history, dealing with paleofascist economics in Argentina. He literally does not know what characterizes classic capitalism, and his advisors are obviously just as ignorant and biased.

Case in point: WW II, far from helping her economy, pushed the British Empire into bankruptcy. Left Europe dead broke and flat on her back. Set the Soviet Union back a generation. Only the US, largely untouched by destruction of industry, escaped the war economically sound.

I had ben considering returning to the Catholic church. Francis has shut that door permanently.

Let me guess? Capitalism is again to blame.

This Pope is a Marxist.

He is probably well meaning and just a useful idiot of the South American Marxist variety.

But still...

As a Catholic, I just wish he would keep his mouth shut. Most every utterance causes more confusion and concern.

Why? Are you allowing your budding faith to be informed by your politics? Pope Francis may be a moron but that doesn't mean he doesn't properly confect the Eucharist. Which, as an individual considering the Catholic Church should be the source and summit of your faith.

I agree. We shouldn’t have to go into all the nuances he might mean when he speaks.

If your full quote is accurate, how do we know he wasn’t speaking of Socialism? His statement is true of Socialism/Communism which requires vassal states to survive.

Politics? No. I am being informed by truth and righteousness. Nowhere, no how does Jesus advocate stealing from some to give to others. Any organization that would chose this prince of darkness as its leader...

No, I’ve read hat h said about governments redistributing. Just like American bishops.
Show me just one Catholic bishop who will speak up against coveting your neighbors’ goods. That is why Catholics ignored the Bishops on abortion. They know abortion is wrong but overlooked the Dems on that point because those same politicians pandered to their covetousness. Same for protestants and evangelical pastors, leaders and activists. American politics and government at all levels is driven by government-mediated coveting. Until the Church takes a stand against this we can expect to sink deeper and deeper into socialism and, oh yeah, abortion.

Politics? No. I am being informed by truth and righteousness.

I would say that you're not being informed of either the truth or what is righteous. Nowhere in this article is Pope Francis quoted as advocating stealing or wealth distribution. If you read the article what has been said, in essence, was Eisenhower's farewell address to the nation regarding the military industrial complex.

Now I don't know if Pope Francis is right. Heck, I don't know if Eisenhower was right either. But this is not something to base your faith on. Every utterance from Pope Francis is not an infallible statement requiring your faith.

Any organization that would chose this prince of darkness as its leader...

That's pretty extreme for someone who says they are considering converting to the Catholic Church. If you are seriously considering becoming Cathoilc, I would suggest there must be an elevation of maturity on the subject of the Pope.
