Most people didn't care. It was pushed by one woman with little kids who was worried about a gun "going off". The congregation was not consulted.
(This is a somewhat unusual congregation. A country church, out in the middle of nowhere. Historically, mostly area farmers, but that's changed in my lifetime. Historically, probably more conservative than your typical PCUSA church.)
