i have had so many rcc folks here tell me this isn’t true.

i point to a lifelong priest friend of my family who believes his place in heaven isn’t certain b/c he believes he could still screw up something in purgatory, but he believes muslims could get to heaven because “they love Mary”.

many rcc here chided me that he was wrong, yet he is very tight with his bishop, he never has had any unorthodox charges put on him, he is a model rcc priest, not radical at all but quite normal and traditional, he is quite certain in what he believes and what he was taught. if anyone is going to know better what the rcc teaches and believes it’s a guy like this.

they think muslims can get there b/c of Mary. even though they deny the Son of God. and they think they still may not get there themselves.

it’s unbelievably saddening.

Your poor, priest friend needs your prayers. If his beliefs are how you explain them, he also needs a refund from his seminary.

One cannot “screw up” in Purgatory. If you made to Purgatory, you will make it Heaven.

Only God knows who is going to Heaven. He has made many promises, and is a just and loving father. To claim a person would go to Heaven because they love Mary, on its face is wrong. If someone loved Mary, then they would love Jesus more! They would follow her example and be obedient to Jesus, absorb and live His teachings, and proclaim Him Lord of Lords.

I have seen that here. By the same people who say that Jesus won't save me, but if I talk nice to his Mom she might be able to get me in.

Around here (Eastern Iowa) the Catholic priests just deny the divinity of Jesus (pre Resurrection at least). The local priests homily the week after Christmas was that Jesus must have been shocked to rise from dead, as He couldn't have been "god" before that.

I respect many of the Catholics on FR. I really do. Many of them are truly brothers and sisters in Christ. But when I go with family to a local "Roman Catholic" parish out here, it is a different religion. Literally.
