i suppose it was sort of low hangin’ fruit
Far be it from me to tell you how to raise your kids, but I think perhaps a better way to help them think about marriage is to teach them to respect themselves and others and to know what they are looking for in a lifetime mate. There ARE plenty of good kids out there (yours, for example) and it takes time and effort to meet the "right" people, encourage each other in spiritual growth and character, to cultivate friendships that are mutually affirming and develop relationships with the opposite sex that can evolve into loving and committed marriages. I would hope we never give up on the bedrock of civilization - ordained by our Creator - and help our kids and their kids to build the kind of society which treasures ALL of humanity.
Marriage Is Not Priority for Millennials, Study Says
They have a government to support. The government will import families from elsewhere.
Hope for the Hispanic population. They are at least Christian
lol
nominally Christian in a cultural context
MS-13 and the drug cartels aren’t exactly very Christian in behavior are they?
“I think every couple Ive run across here at that age is living together. I never even hear about marriages anymore.”
That certainly is very commom, and often doesn’t include children. The men risk much less than they would in a marriage; I guess it is as far as they are willing to go. What kind of woman finds that arrangement acceptable? A lot do initially, but as they age and watch others marry/breed they realize they’ve made a terrible mistake.
Post-Christian America is contracepting/aborting itself into oblivion; here in northern NJ towns that are 80% Anglo seem to have schools filled with students that are 25% Anglo.
national suicide is well underway
“I have heard people much older than these Millenials opine that once weve opened up marriage to same-sex couples, marriage is now meaningless anyway.”
Absolutely; today marriage is nothing more than a legal contract in the eyes of Caesar, with no religious overtones at all.
To expect young people (especially men) to voluntarily enter into such a contract is foolish; there is no pressure at all for the partner to remain in the marriage.
It has been on display here in NJ for decades. As Cardinal Ratzinger asked when discussing the disappearance of Europeans: How do you mourn the passing of cultures who have such a hand in their own demise?
Boy in my children’s set marriage is the thing. Sometimes two weddings per weekend. All millennials, none with previous children.
I often feel that I am one of those “lost” dudes you write of. It is a bit difficult to come across a woman that is not guarded, dismissive, and just basically unkind... If she is so indiscriminate in all her loveless, joyless “hookups”, why would I want to even try to work on a “relationship” with sucb a person?
I gave up... bought a farm alone.. and will just make a go of life as a future lonely sad old man.
