Why do Protestant lay people hate clergy?

Posted on 07/26/2014 4:41:46 AM PDT by michaelwlf3

I am coming up on my first year as an ordained minister in a continuing Anglican church, and I have noticed that participating on political forums (even when the topic is religious) I find that my opinions and postings more often than not generate more hatred than anything else. Among the things I often hear are that the laity are the real priests and that I am a Pharisee, that my vocation disqualifies me from offering an opinion on anything Christian because I am too narrow minded, and (my personal favorite) because I look too Catholic I must be a child molester.

Are these people really Christians?

Continue your falsehood as you wish, but there are presently 29 separate MS chains of the Hebrew original of Matthew’s gospel.

Within those chains are many similar copies that are associated correctly with their chain. This is of course also the pattern with the surviving Greek MS.

History isn’t a logical fallacy.

APPEALING to it IS.

I noticed that it took the "christians" here less than 30 posts to turn it anti-Catholic, and less than 100 to turn it into full blown tidal wave of anti-Catholicism, which is pretty funny since you are not Catholic.

Considering the TITLE of the thread:

Why do Protestant lay people hate clergy?

Why did it take so LONG?

>> “Interesting that agape is in every case given the definition of love” <<

.
Unfortunately, you seem to lack the understanding of the differences between “Love” in English, and the many feelings and emotions that other languages are able to express so much more completely using their multiplicity of words.

We do not have a word in English that accurately corresponds to Agape. Charity comes much closer than the very vulgar Love, that has to do so many jobs for us.

It is unfortunate that you chose to insult JPX2011 over your own limited understanding, but this is your style always.

But, quite frankly, we probably have far many more then they had. If I were a betting man; I'd say we have EXACTLY the same amount.

Bottom line: do I HAVE to believe the little wafer and sip of wine REALLY turns into Jesus’ flesh and blood to enter into Heaven?

A simple yes or no will satisfy my curiosity.

I always find it interesting that very rarely have I ever heard a catholic identify themselves as a Christian.

Notice I said "christians" that refers to the posser wannabes, the prots. Catholics are Christians. Notice it is capitalized and there are no quotes around it. We are the original, and on these threads frequently the only Christians.

Why not simply identify as Christian?

And it took ZERO posts to be anti-Protestant, since the thread itself is a hit piece on Protestants.

Not even a nice try. It failed from the get go.

seriously I really wish prots would learn to read. The man is NOT Catholic! He is one of the three original Protestants groups.

The beautiful thing about threads like this is that virtually every time one of the prot posse posts you prove both he and I correct.

Hate to break it to you, but anyone who professes faith in Christ and Christ only is a Christian according to the Word.

Matthew 7:21, feel free to have the last word.

typical RCC, taking things out of context.

Here's the passage in context.

15“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16“You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17“So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18“A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19“Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20“So then, you will know them by their fruits. 21“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22“Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23“And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’ The Two Foundations 24“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25“And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26“Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27“The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.” 28When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; 29for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

Christians are the poser wannabes? Got it. Nails down what I’ve long known and experienced...Catholics do not identify themselves as such.
