away, as the eunuch and others mentioned in the Bible were, rather than as part of a church service ceremony. They also don’t believe in using musical instruments for church music, so perhaps that might help them keep away from the worldiness of today, at least in the church in this part of the world.

On the question of whether or not Mary remained a virgin, as I said, to this point I haven’t seen enough evidence to conclude either way. It may have been believed by the church from its foundation, but I’m not convinced of it at this point. If the apostles were led by the Holy Spirit not to focus on that question, as what they wrote certainly suggests, then the beginning of giving undue importance to it might have been an early step away from what they believed. The Gospel offending many from the beginning, and there was already distorting of it in the Apostles’ time.

On the matter of “theological reasons,” there really are reasons for why it would make more sense for Jesus to have had actual (Cont’d)

brothers. First, God doesn’t marry anyone. Marriage was something He created for humans, but even the angels don’t marry. If He had married Mary, then just for Joseph to marry Mary too would have given her two spouses. Someone could say that the Church is the bride of Christ, and it is, but obviously it speaks of something higher which human marriage is a shadow of because it is not homosexuality for male Christians to be Christ’s bride. The language you use in describing Mary’s relationship, though, does sound like an actual marriage. God would have “impregnated” Mary and “then handed her off,” saying “I got what I wanted.” But we certainly know that there was nothing sexual about Jesus’ conception. How man creates life is infinitely beneath how God does it, and can only be done because God completely provided the means for it, which should humble us.
I’ll have to stop here for now.

I wasn’t able to get back to responding to your reply before now, and don’t have much time tonight either, but on Mary being “the Ark of God,” I believe that to a certain extent. What I wouldn’t agree with is that because the Old Testament Ark was so holy there were rules for safely touching, that the New Testament Ark that held Jesus was necessarily then that much more deserving of awe and reverence. We can’t of course automatically draw any such conclusions between the Old and New Testaments. The point of the Old Covenant was to show us Go’s holiness and the futility of trying to be holy ourselves. Holiness comes from only the Lord, and His touch brings cleanness to us. He touched the leper and allowed the woman with a flow of blood to touch Him. Out of love, He has come to us in our filthiness, and He comes to live inside of unclean beings when they accept Him as their Savior. That’s part of the sacrifice on His part for having a relationship with us.
