Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Fish is mentioned all through the Bible. The few passages I have quoted here don't even begin to cover all the instances. From the fish created in the Genesis account, to the First Disciples of Jesus, Fish and Fishermen are a recurring theme.

The "Fish Symbol" that you see on the bumper of an SUV has an interesting history. Under the Romans, the Early Christians were persecuted. However, if you thought someone might be a fellow Christian, it was easy to trace a little arc in the dirt with your toe. If the other person traced another arc, and thereby drawing a fish, you knew you had found a kindred soul. There was also a clever pun involved, as the Greek letters in the word for "Fish" (ichtheus) made an anagram for the sentence "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior". It has become a cliche on the back of vehicles, but it has a profound history.

A new symbol has emerged that symbolizes the persecution of Christians in Syria and Iraq. These Ancient Communities are being driven from their homes, raped, persecuted, beheaded, and crucified because they refuse to renounce their Faith. The Persecutors mark the homes of these people with the Arabic letter "Nun" meaning "Nazarene". It looks like this:
