What people find morally acceptable and unacceptable depends on where they live in the world.
The charts below from the Pew Research Center's Global Attitudes Project show people's views on eight topics, often considered moral issues: extramarital affairs, gambling, homosexuality, abortion, premarital sex, alcohol consumption, divorce, and contraceptives.
Pew surveyed 40,117 respondents in 40 different countries in 2013 to obtain the data.
The first graphic below gives the median response across the world. People were the most disapproving of extramarital affairs, with 78% calling them morally "unacceptable," while 14% of respondents, the lowest in the survey, felt contraceptive use was "unacceptable." Topics like premarital sex and alcohol use were most the polarizing.
The rest of the charts, ordered from least-accepted topic to the most, show a breakdown of how various countries responded. The colors correspond to specific regions: green represents Asia/the Pacific; mauve, Europe; light blue, Latin America; peach, the Middle East, bright blue, North America; brown, Sub-Saharan Africa.
As Pew noted:
"Generally, African and predominantly Muslim countries tend to find most of these activities morally unacceptable, while in advanced economies, such as those in Western Europe, Japan, and North America, people tend to be more accepting or to not consider these moral issues at all."
More than half of people in all but one country — France — consider having an affair immoral.

It surprises me that extramarital affairs and gambling top the list.
I was surprised to see alcohol use was higher than divorce.

Hindus and Muslims and Many really devout Christians think so. So do many Buddhist.
There are 7 million people in the world. 1.5 Billion Muslims and 1 Billion devout Hindus plus maybe 500 really devout Christians and Buddhist.
Let’s round that out to 3 Billion.
So yes, that’s close to the 42% mark. You don’t even need the Taliban.

Considering most of the Hindus I know drink like fish I find that a little hard to believe. I guess maybe they “believe” it... but they sure dont practice it!

It seems a rational majority does make one moral distinction between related issues - opposes abortion but not contraception.
France is the outlier here. The French consider most of these moral issues “not a moral issue”.
Anyone with morals in France must be a Muslim. The rest of the French are in for a shock.
Sorry, the Taliban analogy about alcohol is not correct.
The 42% who oppose alcohol consumption are not seeking to restore prohibition.
Break downs of all these categories are so interesting.
Reminds me of this gem of a quote from an Uzbek Muslim, prior to the war in Afghanistan, about why he didn’t want the Taliban to take over Uzbekistan:
“They would prohibit us from drinking vodka, and to make love to another man’s wife would become a dangerous thing, with maybe a chance at execution,” said Ismat Islamov, a bus driver visiting the city. “Uzbeks don’t want that.”
All the ones I know pretty much do, at least the ones here. My wife is Indian, Catholic. But most of them are Gujarati, hotel/liquor store owners. probably the older generation of Hindus are that way.
