Erbil (Agenzia Fides) - The defense of the attacked is an absolute right. But only "the forces of the State should take charge of this defense", while the creation of differentiated militia on ethno-religious basis "can destroy Iraq".

This is how - according to Lebanese sources - the Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldeans Louis Raphael I expressed himself during his participation in the initiatives and meetings organized by the Delegation of the Patriarchs of the Eastern Churches that arrived on Wednesday, August 20 in Erbil, capital of the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan, to express their closeness to refugees from Mosul and other cities which have fallen under the control of the self-proclaimed Islamic Caliphate.

On 18 August, the President of the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan Masud Barzani said he was willing to provide weapons to Christian volunteers to form self-defense militias with a mandate to defend their villages currently in the hands of the jihadists.

I should think so, since it was “foreigners” who precipitated this catastrophe.

Exactly, hopelessly wrong.

When the chips are down—the ONLY DEFENSE that you can count on is YOUR OWN.

Gun up, and fight. If necessary, DIE FIGHTING. Take as many with you as possible. Your life was GIVEN TO YOU BY GOD. You do not throw it away. To HELL with these so-called ecclesiastical ‘authorities’. Lock at how well they have done so far.

I thought all the kumbaya Bishops were in the US. Guess I was wrong.

Also, I thought Catholic teaching stated it is the responsibility of parents to defend their families from those who would do them harm.

That honor belongs to Iraqi Christians who surrendered to Muhammad’s armies all those years ago. Their unbroken record of submission is finally biting them in the ass. Say what you will about Assad and his Alawite coreligionists/ heretics/butchers of Sunnis - at least they are dying on their feet and not their knees.

The Christians of Iraq have preserved and transmitted the Christian faith intact for 2,000 years in the face of extreme persecutions, both Islamic and non-Islamic. Those who "submitted" to Mohammed became Moslems. That's how Islam works. You convert or die. That's being repeated once more, right now, as Iraqi Christians witness to their faith with a heroism never demanded of so-called "Christians" in this country. Thousands have died in a true martyrdom rather than renounce their Christian faith.

Their present suffering can be traced directly to the American intervention of 2003 which removed a secular dictator as payback for his invasion of Kuwait and installed in his place an Islamic republic at the cost of 4,000 American lives. The world and the Middle East in particular, is now a far, far more dangerous place as a result of this neocon disaster.

That the US might now attempt to somewhat curtail the savagery it has unleashed by dropping ordinance on ISIS should not elicit objections from any fair and sane individual.

*8When the chips are down—the ONLY DEFENSE that you can count on is YOUR OWN.**

And when that doesn’t work?

How about praying and God?
