It is not a Catholic event. It is an Irish event. catholic events are liturgical. Everything else is custom. If the Irish sponsors do not have the stomach to tell the fags to go home, then it is not up to Dolan.
FYI: Patrick is a Catholic saint. I'm sorry you and Dolan see no problem letting "fags" dishonor his memory.
This is true, however, it is PERCEIVED by many, including, apparently, many Catholics, as a 'Catholic' event. In this case, Cardinal Dolan should have made it clear in his statements that he doesn't support the LGBT lifestyle, and use that 'teachable moment' to state Church teachings on homosexual activity, but that he also doesn't control who does and does not march in the parade, because he doesn't run it.
Sadly, his comments only serve to confuse Catholics, especially young ones who are so heavily influenced by popular culture, about exactly what the Church teaches, and more importantly WHY she teaches what she does about homosexual activity.
But what Dolan says is up to Dolan. It strengthens my perception that a large number of homosexuals have been ordained to the priesthood since Vatican II and that many bishops feel the need to protect them.
