...”demonstrate Scripture is the only source of moral certainty for a Christian”.......

If the Bible isn’t the Christian’s source for morality, then “What should be?”

My view is based on the fact God exists and is our creator who has spoken to us in His written word.... So if this isn’t the starting point then we’re just like anyone else trying to find objectivity in a sea of subjectivity.

We also have our conscience (another source), but that is only as good as the moral standard ‘that informs it’.... If it’s not the Bible, then we inform our conscience by other means...such as social morality.... which becomes shaped and ‘changed’ by the culture around us (cultural relativism)....and that is always “shifting sand”......“Everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 17:6)

Therefore there must be a final absolute authority to which we can stand on...... “Forever, O Lord, your word is settled in heaven “ (Psalm 119:89)....

>>The apple that fell on Newton’s head is not mentioned in God’s word either.<<

Wow! I didn't realize that the concept of gravity was part of the gospel of Jesus Christ and needed for our salvation. Ya learn sumpum every day.

You demanded an infallible source; I gave you one.

You have not yet satisfactorily established the infallibility of the Catholic magisterium.

Because they say so is NOT acceptable.

Anyone can claim they are infallible.

Nice try, only after so much criticism and one points out the verses of Luke, “all generations call me blessed” do we hear Fundamentalists then say “oh, we call her blessed.”

Well, you can't prove that. Show us where non-Catholics didn't consider Mary blessed out of documents from that era.

I’m not interested in religion.

Religion is bondage.

Freedom is in Christ.

You wouldn’t have the Bible without the Catholic Church, what you preach is 2000 years and 2 continents and a vast ocean removed from the time of Jesus. Christ founded a Church not a book.

Baloney. WE wouldn't have the Bible without the Holy Spirit who breathed out Scripture to men who wrote as they were moved along by HIM.

For God so loved the world, He did NOT send a committee, no matter what they call themselves and how infallible they declare themselves to be.

Back with the Silly Pictures?

I guess you’ve got no valid arguement to counter what metmom posted.

I’m still waiting for the Bear riding a Unicycle.

Because it's ultimately your burden to demonstrate Scripture is the only source of moral certainty for a Christian, because such a way of thinking was unheard of before the "Reformation".

You have sources to substantiate THAT claim?

I fail to see bitter, upset in metmom's or boatbums words, but imo rather in yours. (I guess the "imo" makes it not personal?)

I'm not aware my commentary comes across as bitter or upset; I apologize if that is so.

Spiritual truths are spiritually discerned and the only way that happens is through the Holy Spirit.

Without the life in us given by the Holy Spirit, we are spiritually dead and unable to discern spiritual realities and spiritual truths, any more than a dead body is capable of sensing the environment around it.

SPIRITUAL TRUTHS ARE SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED

1 Corinthians 1:18-31 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written,“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”

Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 2:1-16 And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But, as it is written,

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—

these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.

The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

The lamb is UNDER Mary’s feet.

That’s where Jesus is for Catholics.

...”Like a monkey with an arm in jar having a narrow opening, and it's paw around a nut... it is convinced it just has to have .... the RCC is still captured by it's own desires to be the place having the bishop of bishops and supremacy over and above Scripture, when the scriptures are inconvenient to the desire.”......

That's a neat way of putting it Bluedragon....but admittedly I've found myself doing that on occasion when I want so much to believe something,... placing ‘my own desire’ front and center I search the scripture looking for anything to justify it. It's not long at all before God asks basically...”What are you looking for?”.... Which makes me stop and ask for his take on the matter.

You do have to desire to know what He wants you to know...the truth...and He does know if you desire His truth over your own desires when you approach Him and His word

Ok shrine.

You see, the purpose of an altar has been usurped and is actually a shrine in this case. So the spelling hs been “altered” also. (having fun yet?)

Typical tactic, no comment on the context, just nitpicking on purposefully spilling error...thypos are cool, most people on the www just correct them in their mind and then debate.

Others...have no debate.

Apology accepted, no problem.

: > )

Do you also see that the others do not do what was described either, it's just misinterpreted?

I doubt they see theirs as coming across as described, not to mention most members feeling the same imo.

.....”that’s what is taught by the Church....that no teaching can violate Scripture”.....

Good...then those things catholics are taught by Rome, which are contrary to God's Word, you are free to abstain from if you choose to do so..correct?

Chanelling spilling police...

You are not alone, I can go along with those too, for the sake of humor lightening up debate...

>>First, I do not understand how Galatians 1 can be used to disprove the Catholic Church.<<

The assumption of Mary is dogma in the Catholic faith. One must express belief in the assumption to be a member of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church has also stated that there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church. Thus the belief in the assumption of Mary is needed for salvation per the Catholic Church. THAT is "another gospel" not taught by the apostles.

Spell check don’t catch it if it’s spelled correctly.

Besides, it gives someone with nothing left in their arsenal to debate with something to pick on.

Present company excluded......
