I found that even Mother Teresa of Calcutta's book:
Come Be My Light was like that.
I would read a couple of pages and then ponder them before I picked up the book again.

Oh yes! Mother Teresa, love her. We did Come Be My Light with a prayer group once. We enjoyed it so much, we almost didn’t finish by the end of the year because we were so absorbed by it.

I felt the same way about our Pope Emeritus' middle volume of
Jesus of Nazareth. Very heavy going. Very worthwhile, but very heavy going. The other two volumes were a much easier read (of course they covered less ground and less complex ground).
But I did the same thing - read a couple of pages, and then put it down and thought about it awhile.
I can't help wondering if it's partly the translation though.
