Well, if youve sworn to The Seal of the Confessional in a vow to God, then its also a matter that impicates God. It is not just a human-to-human thing at that point.The 'seal of the confessional' is a man made law...If you admit to a priest that you killed a man and some innocent person is in jail awaiting the death penalty for that crime, it would be impossible for God to honor a vow of anyone including a priest by allowing the innocent man to die...

There is no specific “vow” made regarding the Seal of Confession. It’s simply the law of the Church that to violate the seal is a mortal sin and results in automatic excommunication.
