MOST interesting.
I doubt that this will transpire quickly but it's a start.

**The panelists agreed on the question of a joint act of repentance between Lutherans and Catholics. “I think it would be a fine thing if such a symbolic act could take place between Catholics and Lutherans,” said Koch. However, it would not be about unilateral mistakes or demands for penitence. “The Catholic side is not telling the Lutherans that they should repent,” underscored Feige. Both sides shared a burden of guilt, Koch and Feige agreed. **

Quite interesting.

“...The material will reflect the structure of this document with its triple form of penitence for the wounds mutually inflicted; joy at the insights and dimensions of the Reformation; and hope for unity. ...”

“... “The Catholic side is not telling the Lutherans that they should repent,” underscored Feige. Both sides shared a burden of guilt,Koch and Feige agreed. ... “

Interesting indeed.

Socialists who oppose God have much in common.

Catholics don’t oppose God. Who are you talking about here?

Yup! But as they say, and what might be most apropos here, “The devil is in the details!”

================================================

If ANYONE can deal with that, it's the churches involved. Martin Luther WAS "Father Martin Luther," a very erudite Catholic priest and theologian in his day. He was from the Order of Saint Augustine. That is what the OSA after his name means.

From Google: Martin Luther, OSA, was a German friar, Catholic priest, professor of theology and seminal figure of the 16th-century movement in Christianity.

---------------------------------------------

I'm all for it. This schism only happened 500 years ago and that, in God's time, is the blink of an eye.

And yeah that “conflict” has been so time consuming. Sort of mirrors the conflict with Cuba.

The Pope follows Obama.

Catholics and lib Lutherans, great combination.

Can't be pointed out often enough. Who do they find common communion with? Liberals!

Nowhere in that story the word “liberal” even appear.

One of the problems with this Pope and all of the people who surround him is that they are probably about the most theologically ignorant and politically motivated prelates ever. I have no objection to working with Lutheran churches, which encompass everything from wildly liberal to quite conservative, but there are definitely theological issues that would prevent “full communion.” For example, Communion itself, which is symbolic to the Lutherans, but real to Catholics.

I think the Pope is just looking for more headlines and praise from the left. He gave one of his usual faux-pious attacks on Catholics today, where of course he speaks from his great heights of progressivist moral perfection. I’m so tired of this!

AFAIK, there aren't "conservative" and "liberal" Lutheran churches in Germany, there's only one.

The "conservative" Lutheran denominations in the US aren't interested in talking to the Vatican about anything, except maybe an unconditional surrender.

The Lutheran World Federation is an organization in which only liberal Lutheran Churches are members. More orthodox Lutheran Synods, generally, belong to the International Lutheran Council.

So, when your Magisterium strikes a deal with the LWF, it bargains with a faith community which endorses sodomy and abortion among other abominations.

Well it’s a start. Do you think the conservative Lutheran churches will also join in?

No. There may be an exception or two, but member churches of the LWF don't recognize the True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist ordain women as clergy, deny the sanctity of life and bless homosexual relationships.

These are folks for whom confessional Lutherans pray but not with whom we care to associate.

“The Catholic side is not telling the Lutherans that they should repent,” underscored Feige”

The feely, feely, PC church of Vat II or the truth as professed by the doctrine of the Catholic Church, and preached loud and clear by all Catholic theologians for the last 2,000 years. The Reformation is nothing to be celebrated by the Catholic Church. It was an abomination against God and should be denounced loud and clear by all faithful Catholics.

“Martin Luther WAS “Father Martin Luther,” a very erudite Catholic priest and theologian in his day”

Luther was barely out of the seminary when he started his antics against the Church. I’ve never understood why anyone would consider him as theologian.
