Today's Word with Joel Osteen - January 1, 2014 [Devotional]
Email ^ | 1/1/15 | Joel Osteen

Posted on 01/01/2015 2:07:17 PM PST by Vision

Just do it!

Today's Scripture

“Be strong and courageous and do it. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for the Lord God, even my God, is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.” (I Chronicles 28:20, ESV)

Today's Word from Joel and Victoria

Fear not. That is the message David had for his son, Solomon. For many years, David wanted to build a temple for the Lord. But God told Him that specific job belonged to his son, Solomon. Solomon was young and inexperienced, and even though he knew he had a mandate from God, he was intimidated by the prospect of building a great house of worship, one that would be a dwelling place for the Most High. You can probably understand his apprehension.

But his father David had some good advice for him. He told his son, “Forget your fear. God is bigger than your problems. He is bigger than the temple you are going to build. He is bigger than any adversity that you might face. So just get busy and do your part and God will do the rest.”

Perhaps as this new year approaches, you have some changes that need to be made. Maybe you need a renovation in your marriage, finances, health, or emotions. Whatever your individual needs may be, notice the words of David, “Be strong and courageous, and do it. Fear not, be not dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, is with you.”

A Prayer for Today

God, I’m excited to see what You have planned for me this year. Whatever I face, I will not be intimidated. I will begin this year by seeing myself as You do — happy, healthy, and prosperous. Thank you for the gift of another year. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Why worry about it? Why not leave well enough alone? The devotional is here to bless those that embrace grace and hope of the Lord. Those who don’t can ignore the thread and go elsewhere as with other devotional and caucus threads.

I don’t think this guy warrants the “Devotional” tag.

Why?

What is it about Today's Word with Joel Osteen that disqualifies it from the "Devotional" tag other than Joel's unpopularity with a very vocal segment of FR?

(And if that's it, when did popularity ever define the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ)?

Notice the off-point, non-sequitur answers you get from these modern-day Pharisees?

Same as it ever was.

When Pilate asked why Jesus should be crucified, they didn’t give him a reason. They simply answered “Crucify him! Crucify him!”

The Bible tells us why they crucified Jesus: ENVY (Matt 27:18).

Same as it ever was.

Jesus told us, “If they did it to me, they’ll do it to you.” Joel, Vision, and you are in very good company

I wonder how someone put Chambers in the same category as Osteen?

One person even posted “take your mega church {stuff} elsewhere.”

I don’t think there were many mega churches in Chambers time nor that he stepped into one.

Again, just quoting what was on the RM homepage.

Beats me because Osteen is nowhere near the caliber of person that Chambers was.

***What is it about Today's Word with Joel Osteen that disqualifies it from the "Devotional" tag other than Joel's unpopularity with a very vocal segment of FR?***

You mean other than the fact that his "message" is decidedly unChriatian?

How about this:

Joel Osteen Praises Obama as a Christian and makes the outrageous claim that Obama is doing a good job?

Based on that alone Osteen posts should be fair game on FR. Perhaps you can get some protected status on DU, since Osteen seems to reflect the values of the far left rather than those of us on FR.

Biblical doctrine is subject to person disagreement. But, as usual Gamecock, your argument is not based on Biblical doctrine or the actual contents of this Devotional, but collateral issues relating to your own personal and political preferences. That is, or should be, irrelevant to a Devotional nor should it justify interfering with a Devotional.

Many don’t agree with certain Catholic doctrine and teaching either, but does that mean that good-faith Catholic Devotionals and Caucuses should be taken down from FR?

Today’s Word with Joel Osteen devotionals always start with a Scripture verse, a word of encouragement, and end with a prayer. It is a good-faith devotional.

Gamecock, if you don’t like Today’s Word with Joel Osteen, nobody’s forcing you to read it. STAY AWAY from it and move on.

Vision, unless the Osteen Devotional is banned from FR or until Jim Robinson explains what about Today’s Word with Joel Osteen disqualifies it from the “Devotional” tag, I would encourage you to keep posting this thread for the sake of many who are encouraged and strengthened by it.

Excellent comparison. And Jimmy Swaggart. Oral Roberts.

Americans sure are gullible when it comes to matters of "faith."

He can post it all he wants but I don’t endorse it and I do not choose to let it appear that I do and I do not wish to disallow others to criticize it.

**Today’s Word with Joel Osteen devotionals always start with a Scripture verse, a word of encouragement, and end with a prayer. It is a good-faith devotional.**

A word of encouragement that distorts the Scripture verse that is used. A prayer that is unbiblical.

**Gamecock, if you don’t like Today’s Word with Joel Osteen, nobody’s forcing you to read it. STAY AWAY from it and move on.**

And if you don’t like my Biblical critique of Osteen’s manure you can stay away and move on as well.

It is the point that mature, grown-up Christians, had the overwhelming need to flock to a thread to pile on a fellow Christian Conservative “until they got their way”.

Well, they “won”!

Now they can go “pat themselves on the back”. I am sure they feel great today that their words were used for “good”. I mean, those Threads were just keeping them up at night, they were so Evil, and Vision, well, he/she was worse than a Tax Collector for posting it!

It was uncalled for and very mean!

"I never was under the impression that the devotionals were dedicated to Mr. Osteen? They devotionals were from Mr. Osteen sent out to those who wish to receive them. Vision chose to share them, via FR, maybe with the thought that they might help someone?"

You're right. That was sloppy wording on my part.

"Vision’s choice to answer or not, is his/her choice. If that upsets other Freepers, they should avoid the topic and/or user. It would not upset me, I would just move on."

Yes, it's his choice, but he gives a distinct impression when he refuses to comment on Osteen's controversial statements, while continuing to hold the man up as some kind of Christian example. What did Peter say....be ready to give a reason for what you believe? (paraphrase)

"I do think some people just look for a confrontation/fight. I don’t think Vision deserved the attacks tonight."

Well, Vision didn't exactly play the part of a wilted little innocent flower, either. He challenged the boss on his decision, insulted metmom, and flounced off in a temper fit.

"Ok great, your highness."

"Then self-quarantine it to the Religion Forum or whatever."

"Don’t come here to the general page and expect to be unquestioned and not debated."

Can you read? Look at your browser window and then look at the upper right hand corner of the FR page we're on. Both will show you that you're in the religion forum, not the "general page."

If you're going to post in the religion forum, you probably should go back to the page you linked and give the guidelines a read, as to the language, etc. allowed here.

They haven’t “won” as far as I’m concerned. They are certain to lose the war because the truth of the gospel of Christ is not in word only but in power.

Not even sure they won this battle - depends on the answers to some open questions.

See? Why am I not surprised? Joel’s mind is broad, all right...enough to include those who believe God was a human being and had sex with Mary as “brothers in Christ.”

Save me from that broadness of mind...
