Daniel, there is obviously way too much to get into the weeds on all 13,000 points which appear to be cut and pasted from many different documents and many in which the logic is hard to follow, and some with statements which may or may not be supported by the sources cited.

But just a couple of points on the RCC approach to the Bible which differs from most main stream Protestant doctrines. Your post attacks what you refer to as “RC literalism” in reference to Jesus appointing Peter as the head of the Church which he brought to Rome. This is also the same argument made by many against the Transfiguration of the Eucharist. Which is really interesting in that many of the people who accuse Catholics of being too “literal” in interpreting the direct and repeated teachings of Jesus throughout the Gospels, will insist that we must take the conflicting stories of creation in Genesis as literally.

The Catholic approach differs from this in that we approach the Bible as God’s slow revelation of himself to man. We accept the stories of creation as metaphor which make the point that God created the heavens and the earth and man. We accept that it is not a scientific explanation and have no conflict in reconciling the fact that God created the world, although the literal stories of creation as stated in Genesis may conflict with the scientific evidence of the actual physical history of the earth. But as the history presented in the Bible advances and culminates with the life and times of Jesus and the Apostles, we start taking a more literal approach — especially when Jesus repeats very specific instructions in the Gospels (as opposed to his teaching parables). This applies to the importance of the Eucharist where he states the importance of “eating of my flesh and drinking of my blood” culminating in his instructions to the Apostles to “do this in memory of Me” at the Last Supper.(The KJV is just as clear on this point as the RCC version.) This approach also applies to the other sacraments (Baptism & Confirmation,Reconciliation, Marriage, Holy Orders, and Anointing of the Sick), created by Jesus in the Gospels.

Bill, that is hardly a credible excuse. It is all from one document, and is a compilation of things RCs teach and believe, and thus i do understand the reluctance of RC's to try to defend them.

I see, so you really believe the Bible does not simply literally teach that Peter was the street-level leader among the 11, and the first church, and the first to use the keys of the kingdom, the gospel, and along with the other disciples, had power to bind and loose, and who exercised a general pastoral role (but who also was the second listed among the 3 who Paul said seemed to be pillars, and the only one to be publicly rebuked, etc.);

But that the church looked to him as the first of a line of (conditionally) infallible popes reigning in Rome supreme overall, who uniquely had power which he could always autocratically exercise unhindered, whose sentence was final whether ratified by others or no, and to whom all were to render distinct obeisance to as their exalted head.

And who role as was also that of a distinct class of clergy titled "priests" whose primary function was to offer physical food as a expiatory sacrifice to be consumed in order to obtain spiritual and eternal life.

And that his papal office which possessed perpetual infallibility was perpetuated by successors elected by voting among many candidates?

Is this what you are prepared to defend?

Which should really interesting is that there zero inconsistency at all despite what your parroted polemic presumes, as the issue is not whether one should take Scripture literally or figuratively, but as both are options then the issue is what warrants taking one or the other.

To be a RC and be consistent you need to take the unequivocal statement of Jn. 53,54 as meaning one must actually consume the body and blood of Christ in order to obtain spiritual and eternal life.

If so, then we must see this confirmed in the rest of Scripture. Are you ready to go there?

What is this "we" business? There is RC historical teaching that takes Gn. 1 and 2 as litera (http://www.kolbecenter.org/the-traditional-catholic-doctrine-of-creation), as well as even geocentric Catholics today, while the metaphorical interpretation has serious problems, not the least of which is the denial of the historical Adam which this can lead to (when i was a CCD teacher I remember the teacher in a program designed to help us offered 3 options for a Bible class. "How do we know which one we should choose?" one asked. "Well, let me put it this way" the teacher replied. "If you think Adam and Eve were literal persons then you need to be in the beginners class.") Stuff like that, and evangelical radio, help foster my prayerful departure later.

And which is a slippery slope, leading to, or being concomitant with relegating historical accounts such as Noah and the Flood, the Tower of Babel, Balaam and the talking donkey, Jonah and the fish, Joshua's long day, etc., to being fables, and things like Joshua's conquests to being mainly folk tales, and the sermon on the Mount to not actually being where it says. All of which are part of sanctioned RC teaching for decades, while the NT treats them as literal historical accounts. And this is the church RCs tell us to look to for interpretation of Scripture, versus searching the Scriptures. Thank God that kind of reliance was not how the church began.

Which presumes this is the same subject, and the interpretation of this is the issue, which is to be examined in the light of Scripture. And in which RCS are rather inconsistent in so doing. As has been and can be shown by God's grace, if you persist.

As regards the oft-quoted Mt. 16:18, note the bishops promise in the profession of faith of Vatican 1,

Yet as the Dominican cardinal and Catholic theologian Yves Congar O.P. states,

Unanimous patristic consent as a reliable locus theologicus is classical in Catholic theology; it has often been declared such by the magisterium and its value in scriptural interpretation has been especially stressed. Application of the principle is difficult, at least at a certain level. In regard to individual texts of Scripture total patristic consensus is rare...One example: the interpretation of Peter’s confession in Matthew 16:16-18. Except at Rome, this passage was not applied by the Fathers to the papal primacy; they worked out an exegesis at the level of their own ecclesiological thought, more anthropological and spiritual than juridical. — Yves M.-J. Congar, O.P., p. 71

And Catholic archbishop Peter Richard Kenrick (1806-1896), while yet seeking to support Peter as the rock, stated that,

“If we are bound to follow the majority of the fathers in this thing, then we are bound to hold for certain that by the rock should be understood the faith professed by Peter, not Peter professing the faith.” — Speech of archbishop Kenkick, p. 109; An inside view of the vatican council, edited by Leonard Woolsey Bacon.

Your own CCC allows the interpretation that, “On the rock of this faith confessed by St Peter, Christ build his Church,” (pt. 1, sec. 2, cp. 2, para. 424), for some of the ancients (for what their opinion is worth) provided for this or other interpretations.

• Ambrosiaster [who elsewhere upholds Peter as being the chief apostle to whom the Lord had entrusted the care of the Church, but not superior to Paul as an apostle except in time], Eph. 2:20:

Wherefore the Lord says to Peter: 'Upon this rock I shall build my Church,' that is, upon this confession of the catholic faith I shall establish the faithful in life. — Ambrosiaster, Commentaries on Galatians—Philemon, Eph. 2:20; Gerald L. Bray, p. 42

• Augustine, sermon:

"Christ, you see, built his Church not on a man but on Peter's confession. What is Peter's confession? 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.' • Cassiodorus, Psalm 45.5:
