Astronomical sales of a tiny figurine of the Protestant reformation figure Martin Luther, have confounded its maker, Playmobil, by becoming the fastest-selling Playmobil figure of all time.

The German toy manufacturer announced this week that the first edition of 34,000 pieces sold out in less than 72 hours, forcing the company to urgently request its factory in Malta to produce more of the so-called “little Luthers”. Fans have been warned that the next batch will not be available until the end of April.

“...he had very modern ideas. He believed every person had the right to an education, including women and girls. In this aspect, he was a very 21st century man.”

To bad you just can't enjoy the success of your figurine without dragging Catholics into it.

The catholic "church" still considered biblical interpretation too important to be left to "laymen" and didn't want anyone other than "clergy" to possess Bibles.

1. Nuns are not clergy. Yet they studied scriptures in the religious orders. 2. Great scholars like St. Thomas Moore were not clergy, either. He certainly had access to a Bible.

Before Gutenberg invented his printing press, only the very rich could afford Bibles at all. They were available to read in churches. Of course Gutenberg himself printed Catholic bibles.

Wow...cute, almost as cute as my statues of Mary which are always condemned as somehow not biblical because they represent someone or something alive on Earth......pathetic.

The Reformers were all big on education. Why? That was the only way one could read Scripture. No wonder the Roman Catholic church was against him.

Good grief, the printing press and Martin luther both came along at roughly the same time and it was the press which allowed people to have access to the Bible...before that ALL Bibles were hand copied and thus EXCEEDINGLY rare and expensive....sheesh!!

Speaking of condemned statues of Mary....

Barbie as the Virgin Mary? Ken as Jesus? Italian Catholics are not amused

The Roman Catholic Church didn't write the Bible, and I'm convinced they've never read it, either.... (in particular the letter that Paul wrote to especially to them).

Yes they did...there was no one else there to do it....God used the Catholic church to be the messenger for His message...

Why do you think I do not denounce them too? The subject was Martin Luther.

And just when did the FRoman Catholic church start encouraging it’s rank and file to take up and read?

Luther rejected Calvin. Few Americans even know who he was—They mix him up with Martin Luther King Jr.

A majority of Americans are idiots. Just look who they elected twice.

And one of the main reasons I like Luther is precisely because he rejected Calvin.

That being said, I also reject Luther's antisemitic views.

He was perhaps one of the biggest Jew haters of all time.

And yet he never ran a Jew out of their home, our made them wear some thing on their clothing to identify them. These guys did:

Roman Catholic AS Timeline

of all time.

Of 'all time'? Not even close.

Though a response to you, my comment was really more of a general one aimed at papists who attempt to turn Luther into a devil.

God used the Catholic church to be the messenger for His message...

False. The catholics obstructed truth then, as now. We have a high priest... Call no man father... No such thing as infant baptism... Etc. Etc. Etc.

Paul warned about the coming of catholicism, which coming would send the true church into hiding.

1 Tim 4:1-4: Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. NKJV

I grew up in a community dominated by catholics. I never realized the reason I never had meat on Friday in the cafeteria was because of false doctrine.

but his words were filled with such venom that it could have caused others to take action,

'Could have caused', strong evidence there. Perhaps the poster that quotes a Nazi Propagandist will show to 'prove' your point. The Catholic church had been hammering on Jews a thousand years before Luther hammered on the door at Wittenberg.

Why do you suppose that was? I am interested to know what you think.

I have another serious question to ask concerning the time period 70AD to 150AD (roughly). We have little actual history to indicate what was going on during this interval. What caused the Age of the Apostles (all of whom were Jews that believed) to emerge from this interval as the Age of the “Church” Fathers, none of whom were Jews. What thereupon emerged was a religious organization interwoven with the political systems of the world, using rituals and practices that were unknown to the Apostles.
