For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:5-14)
Israel stumbled over the Righteousness of God, not because it was a way which was too hard, but because it is too simple. They did not understand what Moses refered to when He said, that Righteousness would not be a matter of self effort,Who shall bring Christ down from heaven?
Christ did indeed come from heaven, to save us from our sins and to justify us before God, but not because of the worthiness orb attainments of Israel. It was sheer grace, Love and mercy which brought Christ down to us from Heaven. Truly, The Father sent the Son, to be the Savior of the World.
Nor was anyone worthy of resurrecting any lost opportunities for salvation squandered by Israel in the past,Who shall descend into the deep to bring Christ from the dead?. Christ died for our sins willingly and on the third day God raised him from the dead, death having no real claim on Jesus, who had done no sin, nor was guile found in his mouth .
The only worthy person who ever lived is Jesus Christ, He is the only wise God and our Savior and man can only be saved through Him. He descended from heaven himself, no one was worthy to go up there and fetch him. He rose from the dead, after he had by himself purged our sins, as Hebrews 1:3 tells us.
But Israel for the most part didnt want such a salvation. The salvation described in the book of Romans, is too simplistic. Salvation by a substitute is demeaning to the individual, it presupposes no inherent righteousness and gives no credit to the status of being a child of Abraham,Isaac and Jacob.
There is no striving, and nothing to glory in. They preferred a Righteousness of their own, an ethical system of works and saving rituals, originating in scripture but steadily evolving over the centuries by the teachings of Rabbis and Sages. Jesus and John warned about it, that mere physical affinity with Abraham wouldnt save anyone, rather spiritual affinity.
Who is really a son of Abraham? Who was Abraham and how was he counted as Righteous? What works did he do to attain Righteousness. Abraham was a pagan idolater, who had an encounter with the Living God. God gave him a promise, that one of his children would be a blessing to the whole world! Abraham believed God, and He counted it to Him for Righteousness.
Moses also had an encounter with God, and He believed Him. He is the one who warned Israel not to trust in works, but to realize that The Word is nigh thee, evening thy heart and in thy mouth . God is as close to you as your breath, for in the coming of Jesus, God was manifested in the flesh, He has come unto us, bringing salvation.
How close is salvation?
It is in the simplicity of confessing with our mouth, That Jesus is the LORD, and believing in our hearts that God has raised Him from the dead, that we shall be saved.
This is the original Creed, and the only saving faith, That Jesus is the LORD, and that God has raised him from the dead. In these spare words lie a whole theology, an entire life, even an eternity. The Creed is simple, in the sense that it is uncomplicated, but it isnt easy. Consider its only two components briefly-
* Jesus is LORD- Jesus is the name of a human being, a very real person, the son of the Carpenter from Nazareth. He had a time and a space, having lived in the Roman Empire, in the first century. Jesus of Nazareth lived, laughed, felt, ate, slept, and in short he fully experienced humanity.
Then he died, for he was accused of blasphemy and treason and was Crucified under Pontus Pilate.
But God has shown us that this Jesus of Nazareth, is God.
* God raised Him from the dead- Jesus died as a human being on a cross of shame. But on the third day after he died, when they went to complete the embalming of his body, they found the tomb empty, and Jesus appeared to them very much alive. They handled him, ate with him, listened to him and walked with him until he ascended back to heaven.
The nation of Israel rejected Jesus for the most part, choosing instead a salvation of their own making, one that gives a works righteousness and that elevates the most pious among them, one that a man can glory in, and be exalted above others by.They have unwittingly fulfilled the prophecy of Jeremiah,
My people have committed two evils, they have forsaken ME, the fountain of Living waters, and have Hewn out for themselves broken cisterns that can hold no water. (Jeremiah 2)
Yeah tomorrow’s supposed to be the coldest day since the 1800’s
Spiritual blindness on a massive scale. It does not appeal to prideful people, who actually think they have what it takes to help God along. It goes against the grain for prideful people to admit they are morally bankrupt.
God is merciful and just. He has told us salvation is through Christ alone. How He deals with billions of dead people I don't know. I'm sure He has it worked out.
Don't you just hate it, that global warming causes such cold temperatures? 😄
Scripture says that only a few people pass through the narrow gate. It is also very graphic about the awful fate in store for the majority who don't.
It seems pretty clear how those billions of Asians will be dealt with.
Romans 9:13 Just as it is written, Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.
14 What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be! 15 For He says to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. 16 So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, For this very purpose I raised you up, to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed [k]throughout the whole earth. 18 So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires.
19 You will say to me then, Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will? 20 On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, Why did you make me like this, will it? 21 Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel [l]for honorable use and another [m]for common use? 22 [n]What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? 23 And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory, 24 even us, whom He also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles.
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
(my highlight)
I agree sir. It doesn't matter where they come from. If they don't come to Jesus Christ, they are lost, whether they have heard the gospel or not. I believe there was a time in the distant past, when everyone knew, and the vast majority rejected the Lord. If ignorance is bliss, why send missionaries?
I often quote John 1:12 when I hear someone say something like "We're ALL children of God", or "We're ALL God's children"
Because if you emphasize 'them"
But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become sons of God, even to them that believe on his name ( John 1:12)
the understanding is clear ... we're all God's creation, but we are not all His children
Additionally ... all God asks is for us to believe on the name of Jesus ..
Thank GOD for easy believism, because when I was saved, I was in no shape to analyze or parse a bunch of words and develop understanding .. I was a physical and psychological mess
SW Pa ... minus 2 right now
SW Davao City ... 86 right now!
Filipino Foods from Davao at one of local fine dining establishments!
Bihon, afritada, rice, lumpia, maybe a bibinka dessert and fine friendship ... yup
You are welcome anytime.
The Law wasn't too hard for the people to follow either. It's just our nature not to want to do it.
I’ll take a big helping of that global warming, if you please.
NOW!
I come from Alabama with my banjo on my knee,
I’m going to Louisiana, my true love for to see.
It rained all night the day I left, the weather it was dry
The sun so hot I froze to death, Susanna, don’t you cry.
You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, Abba! Father! The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirsheirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
We’re at -.2 here in CNY but it’s going to bottom out tonight.
Lots of churches in the area are canceling services this morning.
Wise move. The snow is blowing and drifting and we got a fresh batch yesterday that has not settled so will drift nicely.
We’re buried as it is. It’s a good thing that tomorrow is off for so many people and it’s winter break week for the schools here.
