Just like the Greek and Roman gods who would occasionally drop down to Earth from Mt. Olympus for a visit.
No, because the Greek gods were never men in that mythology.
Christianity is the only religion that has as its center a man who was and is at the same time God. Without such unique mediation, our human need for the infinite would never be satisfied. Indeed we would continue to seek to satisfy our religious sense with other gods who are infinitely beyond us. And of course we would fail.
This is Christianity’s unique claim, that we can come to know the infinite which we all desire in our hearts (ie we can come to know God) in our own humanity. Despite our frail humanity He is reachable. Otherwise He remains at the level of the infinite, never approachable, never obtainable, like the myriad of religions before (and after).
He loves us so much that He takes pity in our nothingness and so becomes one of us so we might know Him. It’s the only way to really know Him. Because He is God and we are only men.
