>>the word "obelisk" STILL has no real connection to the word "Bel" or "Baal".<<

You'll have to take that up with Dr. Cathy Burns.

Why should I bother? It suffices to recognize that she is not a credible source.

I won't bother "taking up" Aryan racial theory with National Socialists, either, or Black Liberation Theology with the Nation of Islam. They aren't credible sources.

After 19 years of research you claim she isn't credible?

Her name is listed in Who's Who in Religion, Two Thousand Outstanding Intellectuals of the 20th Century, Five Hundred Notable Women, Outstanding People of the 20th Century, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in America, World Who's Who of Women, Dictionary of International Biography, Two Thousand Notable American Women.

But you say she isn't credible?

The royalties of her book sales go to purchase King James Bibles for prisoners in 550 jails across the United States.

Yet you say she isn't credible?

Yes.

She isn’t credible.

That’s exactly what I’m saying.

I have met (and had the misfortune to work with) entirely too many degreed or titled kooks, buffoons, and idiots to be particularly impressed with a Who’s Who entry or a piece of sheepskin.

Her proposed etymology is at odds with every other, is derived from a dodgy source (Masonic mythology), and has all the earmarks of a false cognate.

But you choose to believe her ... why I cannot imagine.

Family fortunes running opium - they were pirates.

That’s our American establishment.

That doesnt surprise me..

This country is on the wrong side and it doesn’t end well for that side..

No country that houses the worldwide headquarters for Hollywood, porn and music industries that gets pumped throughout the world under the flag of ‘freedom and liberty’ should be looked at other than pirates..

Hmmm... I found this...

Excerpt from Encyclopaedia Brittanica...

"obelisk, tapered monolithic pillar, originally erected in pairs at the entrances of ancient Egyptian temples. The Egyptian obelisk was carved from a single piece of stone, usually red granite from the quarries at Aswān. It was designed to be wider at its square or rectangular base than at its pyramidal top, which was often covered with an alloy of gold and silver called electrum. All four sides of the obelisk’s shaft are embellished with hieroglyphs that characteristically include religious dedications, usually to the sun god, and commemorations of the rulers. "
...
"Other peoples, including the Phoenicians and the Canaanites, produced obelisks after Egyptian models, although not generally carved from a single block of stone."

Read more at the link:

http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/423656/obelisk

Of course, this does not address Canaanite recognition of sun god in particular, whether their obelisks had sun god symbols on them, etc.

That’s consistent with other credible sources of information. The Egyptian obelisk was Pharaoh’s bragging post.

Well, EB and all such publications are nwo things.

I was just pointing out how “nwo” historians acknowledge the Egyptian ones had sun god inscriptions on them.

And yet ...

"Baal" was not a "sun god", nor an Egyptian "god' of any sort, and the word "obelisk" is of Greek origin having nothing to do with the Canaanite "god" called "baal", and obelisks were erected for all sorts of purposes.

If folks wish to wallow in historically inaccurate garbage, and cite highly educated kooks as their sources, that's ultimately their business. They should expect to be challenged, though.

I think this has been beaten to death ... you may carry on without me.

It only takes a cursory study of the history of the obelisk to know the origin.

Some interesting tidbits taken from here.

"The obelisk symbolized the sun god Ra, and during the brief religious reformation of Akhenaten was said to be a petrified ray of the Aten, the sundisk. It was also thought that the god existed within the structure."

"The Ancient Romans were strongly influenced by the obelisk form, to the extent that there are now more than twice as many obelisks standing in Rome as remain in Egypt. All fell after the Roman period except for the Vatican obelisk and were re-erected in different locations."

"Rome is the obelisk capital of the world. The most well-known is probably the 25 metres (82 ft), 331-ton obelisk at Saint Peter's Square in Rome.[7] The obelisk had stood since AD 37 on its site on the wall of the Circus of Nero, flanking St Peter's Basilica:"

I saw that.

I thought the part about the top being gold WAS interesting.

I just don’t have time to look into it.

Interesting CB !
