Then how do people sin, and how is eternal hell justified for them, if God and Jesus never choose them? How is that their fault?
As a Jew, I have certain beliefs about Jesus of Nazareth, but it would be extremely tacky for me to express them on a Christian-themed thread, especially during a Christian holiday. I respect Christian FReepers too much for that. I wish Christian FReepers would show Jews that same respect.
And I expect your harsh words:
Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. (Matthew 5:11)
I will pray for your conversion.
Do you believe in the sufficiency of Christ Jesus’ sacrifice? Or do you believe he must die every week in the Eucharist?
No, I knew that I was wrong to think that because I was blind to the Truth.
Over and over Catholics have explained that it is the one sacrifice, not a re-sacrifice.
Very good question. Yeshua fulfilled all those sacrifices as well...read Isaiah 53...just as the grain was beaten and striped. However, it may continue with the Jewish people as a testament to what Meschioch Ben Joseph did for us (Jesus)
I understand what animal sacrifice was, that was not what I was inquiring about.
I was asking where in Isaiah 66 or elsewhere in bible do you see that animal sacrifice will be reestablished by Jews. You are saying you believe that Isaiah 66 is prophetic and referring entirely to a time yet to come, therefore there will be a reestablishment of animal sacrifice by Jews?
I just have not considered that animal sacrifice being reestablished by Jews was presented in scripture. Do you know of any other scriptures that would support that?
I think it is an important enough future event that it is worth researching further and I don’t know of scriptures speaking of that. I am now considering Isaiah 66 in this regard.
Jesus fulfilled so many prophecies from the Tanakh, the most likely ALL the Sanhedrin recognized who He was, but could not admit it. Their hearts were hardened against Him, so they would not believe. We know that Nicodemus believed, but we do not know who else may have.
Jesus was the perfect sacrificial Lamb, cleansing ALL our sins, for all time, replacing the sacrificial system at the Temple, so it is no surprise that it was destroyed in 70AD. God is a god of both love and justice. With Jesus sacrifice, once for all, the Temple was no longer required.
As an aside, I suspect the approximately 40 years between Jesus' Resurrection and the destruction of the Temple was to allow those born before His coming, to continue to depend upon Temple sacrifices but those born after, to depend only on His sacrifice; His 'justice' and 'mercy' characteristics. The Jews have been unable to perform sacrifices, per the Torah, therefore cannot be made 'clean' without Jesus.
While God chooses who He chooses, we have free will to reject Him. (Rev 3:20. I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.). Presently, almost anyone in the developed world, including Israel, has the opportunity to read the Bible and discover the truth of Jesus, including Bibi! Rejecting Him is being unfaithful to HaShem.
You are asking about God’s election, a very large subject. Jesus made the statement, we didn’t choose him but he chooses us. Though we keep our free will, we surrender to Jesus when he chooses us, his choosing us is more powerful than our independent minded free will, is election in simple terms. Our salvation is predetermined by God.
If would like to discuss it more there is lots of scripture support and it is a conversation/debate that has been going on for very long long time. I have to go out shortly and we probably should not hijack this thread but it is a very good topic to discuss if you want to.
If you are praying to the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, you should avoid that. Deut 13 indicates you will be cursing yourself.
I like your answer ... mostly. Have to go out, will try and reply more later if don’t get home to late.
Ezekiel 38-48 indicates not only a rebuilt Temple, but offerings as well.l, inparticular Passover. Zech 14, describes Sukkot, and the nations going up to Jerusalem. Sukkot is known for the 70 offerings made for the nations.
I'd rather pray for you.
Tell me, in which Christian denomination is this prayer currently recited?
Good question...will look into it!
On the contrary, I love the Jews and Israel. I am Saved because of a Jewish carpenter, Hebrew prophets, and Jewish disciples who gave us God’s word. As Jesus said,”Salvation is from the Jews”!
