Just lost my job. Please pray for me and all those looking for work.

What a surprise, they just called me in and said they had eliminated my position, after almost ten years too.

Heavy Sigh...

Don’t despair. Those of us working for others, particularly large corporations, are always on a knife-edge, and must realize we don’t have full control over our fates

I worked for a large corporation, and every time we had a new division head or underwent a reorganization, it was a game of musical chairs. Eventually, our division was sold, the music again ended, and I didn’t have a chair.

I signed on with a much smaller company, where I had the chance to become a partner/owner. It was risky, and a lot of effort, but it has worked out. I am basically my own boss now. I wouldn’t go back to the previous way for 3X my present income.

Stay positive

I was a career counselor and recruiter for many years. If you’d like to FReepmail me your resume I’ll take a look around.

I heard Tom DeLay speak recently and he said he thanked God everyday for the trials he was facing regarding his persecution by an out-of-control judicial system. He felt God was preparing him for another purpose.

Prayers that you will find God’s plans for you and that you find something better.

First WOW!

Thanks everyone for the instant prayers. I am overwhelmed.

I am on the train headed home posting from my phone and this keyboard is a bit slow.

I have been writing and fixing software, mostly VFP code for the last 20+years and before that bal assembly, if anyone remembers what that stuff is.

Still trying to get my head around it, I was busy every day but working from home I was never quite tapped into the grapevine so I just got blindsided.

I was laid off three times during my career. First time was after 6 months, not a big deal. Went to college.
Second time I had almost 20 years in, had a kid in college, mortgage, etc. After eight months, I got myself rehired back into the company.
Third time I had 35 years in, was 60 y/o ... took retirement and 99 weeks of unemployment.
Lessons learned - never give up, when one door closes, another opens. Good luck.

Don't be afraid to name your location, field and preferred location(s), if you are willing to relocation. Or Freepmail the people offering help.

Yes, there are a lot of jerks on this forum. But they are overwhelmingly outnumbered by genuinely decent people.

FWIW, I am in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Far from the hottest employment market in the country, but still better than average.

What do you do and where are you? Are you willing to relocate to Maine if what you do is something we we are looking to hire?

prayers for you and your family.

FYI; I’ve been there, lost 3 career positions because I refused to compromise my ethics. I was devastated each time but always ended up with an even better position. Hang in there, God has a plan for you.

Jesus I Trust in Thee.

Words are insufficient to describe the shock and subsequent emotions of losing a job, especially when you have a family to support. Traveled down that frightening road. Tonight, celebrate! Yes ... celebrate! Know that God has another plan for you. It takes total trust and committed prayer. It took me several months and lots of prayer while pursuing a new job search. Among the jobs to which I responded was a "blind ad" with only a PO Box address. They called me in for an interview, followed by a 2nd interview and then confirmation that I had been chosen. Not only was the salary considerably higher than the previous position, it came with more benefits and paid vacation time. It truly was the answer to my prayers!! Curious as to why I was selected over the other 40 candidates, they explained it was the result of experience gained at the previous position.

"Jesus, I trust in you!". Have added you to my daily prayer list. Have faith, don't worry and trust that God will guide you to where you belong.

Look for something in Texas. Even at the same pay, low real estate costs, no state income tax; and you will feel like you got a 20% raise if you only made the same money.

If you were really good at your job, they may figure out they can’t live without you. If so, you might be in for a significant pay increase.
