The Church of Scotland voted to allow the ordination of ministers in same-sex civil partnerships today in a breakthrough for gay rights.
The vote was passed by 309 to 182 in a vote by the General Assembly in Edinburgh.
It is due to vote on Thursday on a separate measure which would allow the ordination of clergy in same-sex marriages.
The move has been pushed through without a major revolt from traditionalists - the Herald newspaper reported today that only around one in 50 ministers had left the church as a result.
South of the border, the Church of England bans gay clergy from marrying their partners but some bishops have started to question the policy.
It does allow clergy to enter civil partnerships as long as they remain celibate.

Sad. Another crack in the wall of Christendom. The gay mafia are coming for all of us -- you in the OPC, PCA, Evangelicals, Catholics, Methodists, Orthodox etc., -- this is our fight as well, because the next targets are us
John Knox is rolling over in his grave.
They can call it a “church”, but if God’s not there it’s a meaningless word.
The scots have always loved gross, smelly things.
Christianity looks dead in Scotland — 53% said they don’t have any beliefs
no wonder islam is growing in europe since denominations like the Presbyterian church tell the sinner they can continue in their sin while islam teaches submit and reject secularism.
A couple men, including the pastor, at our small church, took the word Presbyterian off the sign out front. It just says Church. And the presbytery is hearing it from us that we are leaving them.
This is the next step once ordination of females is accepted.
They are expecting a Sodom and Gomorrah apology from God any day now. /s
Why would you do that?.....Do you live in Scotland?...or here? .Is your church one of those who have embraced this?
If so, you have my utmost sympathy and I understand your action.
But this doesn’t represent all Presbyterian denominations...
PCA....Orthodox,.....Evangelical Presbyterian Church......ie the Reformed Presbyterians do not embrace apostasy and are actively fighting against it.
They deserve our respect and honor.
Pastors like Alistair Begg and Sinclair Ferguson....Scottish pastors....are well aware of what’s happening in their beloved homeland (. As well as here in America) and are grieving.
Can’t trust men that wear skirts, don’t you know.
My Harris ancestors were members of this church...
Thankfully they left Ayrshire about 1860...

Marginal Hope in Hard Times, but the ever-readable Carl Trueman (OPC minister & anti-celebrity celebrity pastor).
Of course, totalitarianisms do a tremendous amount of damage, both as they rise to power and as they disintegrate. And they can last for a terribly long time. But we heretics should not despair. Our task is to work hard, master the arguments (scientific, ethical, philosophical, social), understand the history of how we arrived here, defy the temptation to give up through boredom, build a coherent movement of defiance, and thereby prepare if not ourselves, then at least the next generation, for the moment when the revolution collapses under the weight of its own delusions and contradictions. Marginality is uncomfortable but our response to it is key. I will not engage in the lazy arrogance of claiming history is on our side; but I will go so far as to say that in the long term all past evidence suggests that it is certainly not on the side of those who brook no dissent, ignore all counter-evidence, and demonize all opposition.
“The move has been pushed through without a major revolt from traditionalists - the Herald newspaper reported today that only around one in 50 ministers had left the church as a result.”
I would guess that is probably because any remaining orthodox, Bible-believing clergymen probably already left this religious organization a long time ago. This “church” probably already denied the inerrancy of the Bible, the virgin birth and resurrection of Christ, and other key doctrines long before this.
Good quote from Trueman. Thanks for posting.
They say that they hold to Knox’s Scots confession of 1560 and the Westminster confession
They lie?
PCUSA, PCA, Orthodox, or just “Reformed” with Presbyterian beliefs.
IIRC, PCA and Orthodox denominations are still pretty firm in the Biblical mode.
PCA and Orthodox Reformed are definitely firm .......Not compromising to apostasy
Quite definitely :)
