Ireland has said 'yes' to gay marriage and 'no' to Catholicism
The Telegraph ^ | 05-23-2015 | Tim Stanley

...It used to be that Irishness was defined by affection for the Catholic Church and resistance to European liberal trends. So stubborn was this identity that the country took longer than the rest of Western Europe to embrace secularism. But the paedophile revelations of the 1990s rightly rocked faith in the Church as an institution, while a series of recent scandals shook faith in its actual theology. The latter set of outrages were, frankly, distortions of the facts. It was wrongly claimed that a woman had been allowed to die because Catholic doctors would not give her a life saving abortion (no such thing even exists). It was falsely charged that a Catholic children's home had dumped the bodies of hundreds of unwanted babies into a septic tank. Never mind that both stories crumbled under scrutiny – the popularity of them spoke to a growing sense that everything wrong with Ireland was due to the imported tyranny of Catholicism. Shake off the last remnants of traditional religious authority, it was reasoned, and Ireland could finally join the 21st century. Au revoir, Father Ted.

To emphasise, the Yes vote was undoubtedly a reflection of growing tolerance towards gays and lesbians. But it was also a politically trendy, media backed, well financed howl of rage against Catholicism. How the Church survives this turn, is not clear. It'll require a lot of hard work and prayers.

After enduring centuries of Protestant persecution, Ireland effectively just voted to become Anglican. And they did it with a tacit nod from the Roman Catholic hierarchy which did next to nothing to oppose the referendum with many clergy openly backing it.

Yes, the pedophile scandals of the 90s began a downward decline...those were real scandals.

Then the lies about the church indicated by the author were spread...

I am telling you, a little leaven will spoil the entire loaf, right?

We need to repent as a society. Western civilization is going completely pagan.

Actually, Ireland effectively just voted to become America.

The priests that voted for this will have to answer before God, as well as any bishops who abdicated their duty to at least inform their flock of the only moral choice that respects God’s right to the natural order He ordained.

The Pope doesn’t act very Catholic. Why should anyone expect “Catholics” to do so? Yet another institution destroyed by Marxism. Marx is laughing in Hell, no doubt.

I saw this coming. Over the past year or two I have become friends on social media with several Irish people living in and around the towns one of my ancestral families came from who have assisted me in my family research. It became apparent right away how Euro-Left every one seems to be over there. And these are simple middle-aged people from deep in the countryside, not college kids from the large cities. Liberalism is a disease that spreads.

I can’t help but think that this issue will end in open schism within the Catholic Church.

One could say:

Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
Second Thessalonians, Catholic chapter two, Protestant verses one to fifteen,
as authorized, but not authored, by King James

One could sing:

Laid down last night, Lord, I could not take my rest;
Laid down last night, Lord, I could not take my rest;
My mind was wandering like the wild geese in the West.

The Sun will shine in my back door someday.
The Sun will shine in my back door someday.
March winds will blow all my troubles away.

I wish I was a headlight, on a North bound train;
I wish I was a headlight, on a North bound train;
I'd shine my light through cool Colorado rain.

You can bet US $$$$ and threats of boycott should the vote fail played a big part in the yes vote. Propaganda works.

I read there was lots of pressure on traditionalists to vote for this Satanic debacle, so I can understand it passed. Why does the paper insist they’re voting against Catholicism? Why is the paper so against religion? Are all their reporters fairies?
