Heh, the EO don't recognize the primacy of the pope and yet RC's accept them as Catholic in communion with the Catholic church.

Protestants often try to interpret the reference to the rock in a way that shows why Peter could not be the rock in this passage. Personally, I am in agreement with evangelical scholar D. A. Carson when he writes, “If it were not for Protestant reactions against extremes of Roman Catholic interpretation, it is doubtful whether many would have taken ‘rock’ to be anything or anyone other than Peter”

Personally, I think he's wrong here because of this.

Paul identifies who petra is, and that is Christ. If it weren't Christ, but rather Peter, this would have been the place to say so. *Don't forget guys, Peter is "petra".*

But he didn't.

This link takes you to the Greek.

1 Corinthians 10:1-4 For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock (petra) that followed them, and the Rock (petra) was Christ.

Can you refute a single point of the article?

Or is your only response to attack the messenger?

>>” And they must serve with derived authority, living totally under the written Scripture and its final authority.”<<

The written Sacred scripture is not enough. We have seen what happens when the papacy is ignored by Protestants. Everyone becomes their own pope and interprets the same scriptures by their own partial understanding, leading to massive disputes and misunderstandings. Every human organization requires an accountable leader. in addition to scripture, we must learn the practices of the early Christian community (for the first 300+ years when there was no written bible), which the Catholic church calls the Sacred Tradition of Christ’s church. Others may look to Luther, Calvin, or King Henry, etc. for their proper understanding of the Sacred scriptures. But I look to Jesus Christ, the Apostles, and the church they created for my understanding. I pray that Jesus will help us all to become ONE as He desired.

What a lousy excuse for scholarship.

Papal infallibility wasn’t invented at Vatican I; it was delineated in a most highly restrictive way. As defined by Vatican I, the Pope is only infallible when he speaks from the throne of St. Peter, on behalf of the Church, for the establishment of doctrine. While Vatican I insisted the Pope does this on his own authority, in every instance when he has done this, the Pope has either confirmed the findings of an ecumenical council of bishops, or stated the presence of a consensus throughout the Church and throughout history of those who represent the Church.

It breaks me up that the author paints Vatican II as backpedalling, then cites Vatican II as its source for just how authoritative papal infallibility is.

But I mean, come on... some of the errors are just plain silly. Every time the New Testament lists all of the disciples, it not only lists Peter first, it also titles him “first,” even though he was not the first disciple called or the first to arrive at the resurrection. (The only reason he was first of the 12 to witness the resurrection was because John halted.) But for crying out loud, Matthew 4:18 DOES list Peter first, even though it’d make sense to list Andrew first. The closest you can get to the gospels or Acts listing any other order or the disciples is John 1:44? (”Phillip, like Andrew and Peter,...”)
