BREAKING: Pope takes major step toward formal heresy

"I feel like saying something that may sound controversial or even heretical. But there is someone who knows that despite our differences we are one. It is he who is persecuting us. It is he that is persecuting Christians today; he who is anointing us with the blood of martyrdom, knows that Christians are disciples of Christ. That we are one, that we are brothers! He doesn't care if they are Evangelicals, Orthodox, Lutherans, Catholics or Apostolic. He doesn't care! They are Christians."

Pope Eugene IV

Only the current Catechism is binding now, though, right?

Another quote says that if a person is a heretic and dies, the followers will scatter. I believe it’s from St. Paul.

Knowing the context and the scripture is usually helpful

This was a prophetic utterance of Jesus

31Then Jesus said to them: All you shall be scandalized in me this night. For it is written: I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be dispersed. 32But after I shall be risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. 33And Peter answering, said to him: Although all shall be scandalized in thee, I will never be scandalized. 34Jesus said to him: Amen I say to thee, that in this night before the cock crow, thou wilt deny me thrice. 35Peter saith to him: Yea, though I should die with thee, I will not deny thee. And in like manner said all the disciples. (Mt. 26:31-35)

Your catechism is not infallible and is subject to change.. as your church wills

However a council is considered infallible...so this can not be changed

It is. It's called "Baptism by Fire and Brimstone"

I would listen, if I were you...:)

FINALLY, he states something I've always believed, (although it's made difficult to maintain my belief after reading some of the forum posts here)!
Francis added that the devil "knows that Christians are disciples of Christ, that they are one, that they are brothers! He doesn't care if they are Evangelicals or Orthodox, Lutherans, Catholics or Apostolic … he doesn't care! They are Christians."
I happen to believe that, too. Strange that so many on this thread believe this to be heresy.

It is important what God things, not what Satan thinks.

Who is the author of error in the church? Would you say Satan? He is delighted to promote doubt, error, and heresy. I think he is happy to torture anyone, believer and unbeliever alike. So I do not see it necessary to call all who call themselves “christian” as legit just because evil people are out to get them. There are still differences that matter.

Not all who say “Lord, Lord” will be judged to be His disciples. That is what God says about it.

I don’t know why my view is offensive. Is it because to a Catholic the Pope has to always be right? I don’t see it that way.

The ignorance of the faith is palpable, rampant and epidemic. Pope Francis plays with us, because he can. Most Catholics are poorly catechized and quite content to stay that way.

Jesus surely wasn’t serious when he built His Church on Peter. I mean, look how friendly Luther was and Wesley and Calvin. Jesus wasn’t serious about anything being literally and perpetually “petrine”.

And those silly old practices of the Old Testament, sent down by the voice of God, were really cool for the times, but so meaningless. I mean they were demanded and stuff, but they are soooo exacting, demanding and just too much trouble and stuff.

Let’s just smile, hearts a flutter and cumbaya together.

God help us.

Your posts have been on target today and I intended to PM words to that effect earlier this evening.

The present pope #1 (not Benedict pope #2) was placed in his current position with the votes of many church leaders. Some RC's have posted on FR as if he were a church official democratically elected by the membership and is responsible to all Catholics.

Francis is doing the work of those who promoted him to his current church position, not the rank and file Roman Catholic worshipers. He is leading the RCC in the direction the church leaders, the movers and shakers, want him to lead.

What the LORD says about this is right there in black and white: “anyone who so much as gives someone a cup of water IN MY NAME will not lose his reward”.

This was an explicit correction of two disciples who went to Jesus expecting praise for sending away men casting out demons in His name “because they don’t follow US”

Jesus DOES NOT CARE who follows RnMomof7 or piusv. He said so Himself.

His criterion was, “do they follow me”? He rebuked his disciples for presuming to define who was and who wasn’t a Christian.

It’s not strange when most who agree with it are post Vatican II Catholics who have been fed (and are still infected with) Modernism for 50 plus years and Protestants.

Traditional Catholics who know the pre-Vatican II Faith which condemned false ecumenism and false unity recognize this clearly as heresy.

Like I said, so many Catholics have been infected with Modernism for so long that they don’t even recognize heresy when they see it.

He rebuked his disciples for presuming to define who was and who wasn’t a Christian.

Are you referring to the occasion when his disciples were wanting to forbid someone not among the followers from casting out devils in Jesus' name? When he said "He that is not against me is with me"?

Or did you mean on some other occasion?

Because it indeed IS important that the local assembly of believers be certain who among us is a believer in Lord Jesus Christ and who isn't at this time. It matters and the local Church of Jesus Christ is supposed to know such important details.

I actually agree with you. I think many cardinals would agree with this heretical statement of his. Having said that, we don’t know just how many voted for him.

Eh, I’m not “on your case”. I simply pointed out that your reference to Baptism of Blood did not negate Pope Eugene’s words. It also does not correspond to Francis’ so-called “ecumenism of blood”. Baptism of Blood is not the same thing as those who were baptized by water but were outside the Catholic Faith at the time of their death.

I’m not sure what you are getting at, so please explain to me exactly how Pius IX’s warnings don’t apply here.

He’s pretty clear that using John 17 to push the agenda that the Church needs to be united, that it is not united already in the Catholic Church, that the Church is “divided” and that Jesus wants us all to be one (when we are one in the Catholic Church, His Church) is a grave error. Show me how this “John 17 movement”, which Francis praises and prays isn’t just what Pius IX warns us only serves to “destroy the Catholic Faith”.

John 17 is not heretical. It is heretical to use it in such a way to claim that Christ’s Church is not already “one” in the Catholic Church only.
