Didn’t Mohummad fly away during the night to/from Jerusalem? I am no Koranic scholar, so I might have my Islam stories mixed up.
Can anyone clear up my misconception?
He flew to "the farthest mosque" which, as some point, the muslims claimed meant Jerusalem. Bam! Instant Islamic Holy Site.
The muslim name for Jerusalem is J’lem.
Obama administration officials have used it.
The Koran mentions “ the fartherest place” or some such verbiage which the Muslims decided was Jerusalem and they put their mosque under a dome on the rock which just happens to be atop Mt Moriah, one of judeaoChristianity’s most historic and biblically mentioned sites
No “they didn’t build that”
that rock has seen a lot of use, it was the same rock Abraham used to tie Isaac when Yahweh commanded that Abraham kill his son Isaac.
the wall that supports the dome of the rock is the western or wailing wall, the holiest site in Judaism and the site of the second temple.
access to the dome of the rock is thru the 8th gate in the wall of Jerusalem, it is now closed. it will be opened by the twelfth Imam upon the arrival of apocalypse, in Islamic belief.
also, some Christan's believe the destruction of the dome of the rock will trigger the apocalypse as well, that's what a Christian guy front he US tried to set it on fire a couple years ago.
currently you can visit it, but as you can imagine, with all the drama surrounding it, heavily guarded, metal detectors, etc etc.
so, a lot going on there.
The story you mention is not in the koran. It is a legend or perhaps in one of the labyrinthine hadiths. It could even have been invented by saladin in order to justify the building of the Dome of the Rock.
They have been known to make up stuff like that.
