The War on Poverty After 50 Years. Heritage Foundation Statistics.
Catholic ping!
1965.
The Vietnam War was ongoing. LBJ (worst president ever) was in office. Prayer in school was outlawed. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was passed that opened the door to tens of millions of illegals.
Yeah. If you had to put a date-stamp on when America lost it - 1965 would be as good a place as any.
I miss the beavers and the
frog....

-— And Canada replaces their flag that had the Union jack with that stupid leaf -—
One of my pet peeves, too, and perfectly captures the 60s mentality. Replacing crosses with a banal maple leaf. Imagine that.
“I’ll have them ni**ers voting Democratic for the next two hundred years”
-LBJ
I’m sorry that the year turned out so bad for the whole society. I was 20 years old having the best times of my life!
Certain movies seemed to intuit what was going on. I think of “Rosemary’s Baby” especially. Remember the early scene with the Time magazine “Is God Dead?” cover. Yes, something satanic was going down.
And he’s a quarter of the way there.
“LBJ (worst president ever) was in office”
Ever? So Carter is rehabilitated and Obama’s no longer worst ever?
We spent $22 trillion on poverty and that’s about what we got-$22 trillion worth of poverty. Not a very good deal.
The Communist Lee Harvey Oswald achieved his dream of destroying America. It’s just taken awhile. And the destructive processes continue.
When the history of the rise and fall of America is written, historians will point to the Immigration Act of 1965 as the primary cause of its destruction. Demography is destiny.
The 24th amendment is what created this mess. Specifically, those last three words "or other tax."
It separated the paying of taxes from the spending of taxes, and made it economically viable to pursue a newly enfranchised class of voters by bribing them with public money.
Johnson did what any canny politician would have done. He flipped all those voters that the Republicans had newly created over to the Democrat party, and he did it by bribing them with government money.
It kept the Democrats in power for half a century , and created most of the financial mess we are currently dealing with. It probably caused Nixon's impeachment and the loss of the Vietnam war. It by extension, caused Carter, heretofore America's worst and most Stupid President.
And, music was in transition in 1965 too, reflecting the turbulent times.

I was literally about to post Billboards top 100 songs of 1965.
Nice summary for, stage III...
I don’t know if you are male or female but either way.
Older guys here will know what I’m talking about.
If or when you went into a “traditional barber shop” there was this huge poster on the wall with a dozen or so hair styles/cuts.
The changes over the years is really interesting.
I’ve tried to find the company and the posters they put out with no luck.

I was going to but I thought it would be too long.”
Satisfaction and Like a Rolling Stone came out within weeks of each other. I was a senior in high school and got to cruise in my parents 65 Chevy 327 Impala Super Sport Coupe, hearing them back to back on the AM radio, and felt on top of the world.
