1965.

The Vietnam War was ongoing. LBJ (worst president ever) was in office. Prayer in school was outlawed. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was passed that opened the door to tens of millions of illegals.

Yeah. If you had to put a date-stamp on when America lost it - 1965 would be as good a place as any.

Certain movies seemed to intuit what was going on. I think of “Rosemary’s Baby” especially. Remember the early scene with the Time magazine “Is God Dead?” cover. Yes, something satanic was going down.

We spent $22 trillion on poverty and that’s about what we got-$22 trillion worth of poverty. Not a very good deal.

The Communist Lee Harvey Oswald achieved his dream of destroying America. It’s just taken awhile. And the destructive processes continue.

There was also the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, whose effects continue to rock America. The Act substantially increased immigration from the Third World—with less expected of new arrivals even in terms of embracing traditional American principles—and also is credited with triggering the waves of illegal immigration and the problems it has brought with it.

When the history of the rise and fall of America is written, historians will point to the Immigration Act of 1965 as the primary cause of its destruction. Demography is destiny.

While I agree that the root cause to most of our destruction is a consequence of Johnson, let us not forget all those Republicans of that era that convinced him to do it.

The 24th amendment is what created this mess. Specifically, those last three words "or other tax."

It separated the paying of taxes from the spending of taxes, and made it economically viable to pursue a newly enfranchised class of voters by bribing them with public money.

Johnson did what any canny politician would have done. He flipped all those voters that the Republicans had newly created over to the Democrat party, and he did it by bribing them with government money.

It kept the Democrats in power for half a century , and created most of the financial mess we are currently dealing with. It probably caused Nixon's impeachment and the loss of the Vietnam war. It by extension, caused Carter, heretofore America's worst and most Stupid President.

The most important thing that happened in 1965 to bring down the curtain on the old order was the licensing of BankAmericard outside of California, to create what became VISA and the modern system of unsecured credit as a substitute for money as a means of exchange - although not, obviously, as a store of value.

My grandmother taught in NYC Public for 55 years. She used to cut articles out of the paper for us when we were kids, to make important moral or civic teaching points.

I will never forget the day in 1965 when she brought the story about the birth of "credit cards". "THIS", she said, "will destroy America faster and more surely than the communists", she said.

And she was right.

1965, the year that money changed, silver to no value. So appropriate with all the false promises of the left.

All that came about in 1965 are the consequences of our nation's society being radically transformed to fight for life or death in a world war, losing a very large number of young males in that war and the war transformed attitudes and beliefs of the survivors who came home to raise families in the peace that followed.

The war effort forced necessary long overdue changes in American beliefs, attitudes and practices regarding race and the roles of women.

After the war, for those two issues, there was no going back to what was before, no putting those genies back in their bottles.

Unfortunately, old ways die hard and in the 1960s we lit the candle of our politically prolonged, long winded, second civil war.

Ancient wisdom says, "United we stand; divided we fall." Our ideological enemies have taken advantage of our genie problems and stirred the many fires here ignited by that war candle.

After all these years since the 1960s, they have lit so many candles, here and elsewhere that we now have a "Global Warming" crisis and carbon taxes for the world to make it all better!

Bruce Jenner's recent fundamental transformation seems like a mirror of our own national fundamental transformation.

Too many things in our world have fallen below my threshold for comprehension and understanding and now I'm just along for the ride.

For me, there is a point when Mongo logic the only thing that makes sense and we have come to that point:

This article can take the wind right out of your sails. I feel Reagan got this and tried to slow it / reverse it. IMHO at this point, It can't happen without a tipping point in our favor, fiscally, culturally, and spiritually.

I would have said the year was 62' not 65', but 65 was worse.

It is not a mystery to me anymore why I am enamored with music from the early 60's, they were our Halcyon days, sadly we are downhill here even more I fear...

I am still waiting for one of our "leaders" to come up with a retort to "The Naked Communist" and mean it and go at it full throttle...
