>>Second, their authority was not merely to proclaim that God had already forgiven sins or that he would forgive sins if there were proper repentance.<<

Yes it was. The Greek words says "will have been bound". The apostles were to proclaim what had happened.

Here is Gill's exposition on that verse.

Whose soever sins ye remit,.... God only can forgive sins, and Christ being God, has a power to do so likewise; but he never communicated any such power to his apostles; nor did they ever assume any such power to themselves, or pretend to exercise it; it is the mark of antichrist, to attempt anything of the kind; who, in so doing, usurps the divine prerogative, places himself in his seat, and shows himself as if he was God: but this is to be understood only in a doctrinal, or ministerial way, by preaching the full and free remission of sins, through the blood of Christ, according to the riches of God's grace, to such as repent of their sins, and believe in Christ; declaring, that all such persons as do so repent and believe, all their sins are forgiven for Christ's sake: and accordingly, they are remitted unto them; in agreement with Christ's own words, in his declaration and commission to his disciples; see Mark 16:16. On the other hand he signifies, that whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained: that is, that whatsoever sins ye declare are not forgiven, they are not forgiven; which is the case of all final unbelievers, and impenitent sinners; who dying without repentance towards God, and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, according to the Gospel declaration, shall be damned, and are damned; for God stands by, and will stand by and confirm the Gospel of his Son, faithfully preached by his ministering servants; and all the world will sooner or later be convinced of the validity, truth, and certainty, of the declarations on each of these heads, made by them. The Catholic twisting of those words is once again deceitful.

>>Again you offer your personal unrealistic opinion (contrary to the explicit words of Jesus) based on the Jewish laws of the old covenant (previous post) and not the New Covenant that Jesus Christ proclaimed and stated that He would always be with us in the Eucharist.<<

At the last supper Jesus and the apostles were still bound by the Old Law as the New Covenant could not have begun until the shedding of Christ's blood on the cross.

I am 53 and do not recall a Pope ever openly weeping for the unborn, or weeping that Children are being taught homosexuality, or weeping that close to 50 % of US Catholics have no problem voting to murder a child,or voting to remove GOD/CHRIST be removed from the classroom/public square.

That`s were they all lose me, I am just a simple Christian with no title and I weep for the unborn and the children being taught that homosexuality etc is ok.

How could the head of the Catholic Church be silent? When he does speak on these issues it`s only lip service, I dont see weeping, I dont hear any of them saying to vote for murder and the removal of God/Christ from the classroom/public square is to not be in the Book of Life.

Has the Pope ever asked Jesus into his life, has he thanked Jesus for personally dying on the cross for his sins? Has he promised to turn from his sins.

I am reading more and more evil from the Catholic Church almost on a daily basis now.

Some Bishop appointed recently by this Pope says homosexuality is not a sin???

Get behind me Satan

Your comment: “Whose soever sins ye remit,.... Again, this statement ignores the words of Christ and sets forth the lies of Satan. See Matthew 18:18
Christ told the apostles to follow his example: “As the Father has sent me, even so I send you” (John 20:21). Just as the apostles were to carry Christ’s message to the whole world, so they were to carry his forgiveness: “Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matt. 18:18).

Your comment:” The Catholic twisting of those words is once again deceitful.

>>Again you offer your personal unrealistic opinion (contrary to the explicit words of Jesus) based on the Jewish laws of the old covenant (previous post) and not the New Covenant that Jesus Christ proclaimed and stated that He would always be with us in the Eucharist.<<

“At the last supper Jesus and the apostles were still bound by the Old Law as the New Covenant could not have begun until the shedding of Christ’s blood on the cross. “

Then just ignore the Last Supper like you ignore God’s words that don’t fit your conclusions. So you are telling Jesus what he can not do at the Last Supper.

Do you just make this stuff up? Your own Bible? There appears so much hatred for the Catholic Church, there must be another false being/devil that has produced the false words that are being used.

The law stated that they were not to eat blood. If Christ was to be sinless He would have had to abide by that law. The Catholics claim Jesus and the apostles ate blood. It's pretty simple ADSUM.

Your comment: “The law stated that they were not to eat blood. If Christ was to be sinless He would have had to abide by that law. The Catholics claim Jesus and the apostles ate blood. It’s pretty simple ADSUM.”

Again, some non Catholics ignore and do not accept the actual words of Jesus and claim that Jesus is a sinner because of the sacrifices of the old covenant. Jesus is the new covenant.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” John 6:51

The Last Supper.h 14When the hour came, he took his place at table with the apostles. 15He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover* with you before I suffer, 16for, I tell you, I shall not eat it [again] until there is fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”i 17Then he took a cup,* gave thanks, and said, “Take this and share it among yourselves; 18for I tell you [that] from this time on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” 19* j Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.” 20And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you.k Luke 22:14-20

The Lord’s Supper. 26* j While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.”* k 27Then he took a cup, gave thanks,* and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, 28l for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins. Matthew 26:26-28.

The Lord’s Supper. 22* While they were eating,f he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is my body.” 23Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed* for many. 25Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” 26Then, after singing a hymn,* they went out to the Mount of Olives.g Mark 14:22-26.

Again, your comment: “The Catholics claim Jesus and the apostles ate blood.”

Yes the Catholics repeat the words of Jesus in the Mass as the host and wine is consecrated into the Body and Blood of Jesus just as reported in the Gospels of John, Luke and Matthew. We do this this in Memory of Jesus dying on the Cross for our salvation and opportunity to be with Him in heaven.

I guess some simple minded may not fully understand these words of Jesus: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you.” ““This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed* for many.”

>>Jesus is the new covenant.<<

There is no new covenant until blood is shed. Notice that Jesus said "which will be shed for you".

Hebrews 9:14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15 For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. 16 For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it 17 For a covenant is valid only when men are dead, for it is never in force while the one who made it lives.

No new covenant until Christ's death on the cross. Under the Old Covenant, keeping the commandments was required as the way to have good standing with God. If Jesus and the apostles had eaten blood like Catholics claim they would have been sinning against the old covenant laws.

You want to accuse of simple mindedness? I'll take simple mindedness over ignoring the passage above in Hebrews and making a claim contrary to what the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to write. I'll take simple mindedness over twisting the words of Christ like Catholics do.

Your comment: “There is no new covenant until blood is shed. Notice that Jesus said “which will be shed for you”.

So you again chose to ignore and not accept the actions and words of God:

“This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.” 20And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you.k Luke 22:14-20

Seems like you may be the one who ignores the words of Jesus and twists the meaning. You attempt to refute the actions and words of Jesus by referring to Christ’s death which put the new covenant into effect. (Jesus as eternal Son is the one who established the new covenant together with his Father, author of both covenants; at the same time he is the testator whose death puts his will into effect.)

“I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I have delivered them to you” (1 Cor. 11:2).
