I posted something earlier today and I wanted to repost a portion now with some additional input.
“Evangelical Christianity backed away from civil disobedience to protect human life in the 1990’s to hit the more fashionable sins like racism and so on....of course racism is bad, but I think the compulsive addictive behaviors involving alcohol, drugs and sexuality permeate the religious subculture weakening its ability to meaningfully resist evil.”
I am a drunk (currently sober) and a former church officer, student evangelist and so on. I have learned that I am wrong and need to change my approach to life in general and sexuality among other things.
A friend came to me 25 years ago and told me I was acting like an alcoholic with the background I previously described. I did not want to believe him for almost 20 years, but I had a change of heart.
Glenn Beck, a sober drunk who has worked the 12 Steps, has reminded his listeners in recent years of the need to get their lives together, know who they are, clean up their acts and so on.
I can’t do anything about all this hypocrisy in the religious world but I have been able to do something about my own. God help us all to do that.
you sound wise.....
Bless you for changing, friend. Humbling for sure.
If you’re sober, you’re not a drunk.
