How is this the Catholic Churchs fault? A couple of really bad, fallen away Catholics sit on the highest court in the land and its the Churchs fault? You may be at the one parish in this country that is the exception (if you are, you need to thank God for how blessed you are), but:
- How often is contraception mentioned as a grave evil in your parish?
- How often is "sodomite marriage" or, for that matter "sodomite conduct" mentioned as a grave evil in your parish? (It may have been mentioned once or twice due to the SCOTUS decision coming up, but I'm talking about historically)
- How often is abortion mentioned as a grave evil in your parish? (If it's like most I've seen, it's mentioned generally once a year)
- How often is out-of-wedlock sex (to include heterosexual sex) mentioned as a grave evil in your parish?
Contrast this with the following list:
- How often is the environment mentioned?
- How often is supporting illegal aliens mentioned?
- How often is supporting socialist causes (such as universal government-run healthcare or universal government-provided housing) mentioned?
Take it one step further.
- How meny times has your local Ordinary issued some kind of editorial, pastoral letter, television news appearance, etc., on each of the above?
- For kids in your local Catholic grammar and high schools, how much are they taught about each of the above? (We won't even bother discussing "Catholic colleges")
- Does your local diocese / state episcopal conference sponsor "grass roots lobbying" efforts with your local state legislature? If so, please mentally review the talking points that "grass roots lobbyists" are given to discuss: which set of bullets above do those talking points more reflect?
- Then look at the USCCB lobbying efforts for national politics. Which set of priorities are they following?
Finally, how many politicians has your local Ordinary imposed Canon 915 restrictions on? Mine (Donna Wuerl) refuses to do so. In fact, mine (Donna Wuerl) disciplined a local priest (Fr. Guarnizo) when he refused to communicate an openly declared lesbian buddhist when she presented herself for communion at a funeral.
We shouldn't be drinking our own bathwater here.
Why are you focusing on the Catholic Church? What about the Jews and the Protestants. I hate to say it but Jewish progressivism puts the Catholics to shame. Protestant ministers marry gay couples and appoint lesbians as ministers. You don’t mention the Jews because you don’t want to be accused of anti-Semitism and you don’t mention protestants because you don’t want the cabal here to come down on you, do you?
In answer to your list of questions, our priest spent nearly 20 minutes on the same-sex marriage problem yesterday at a DAILY Mass, and then talked with four of us for about 10 minutes after Mass.
