What’s your point? Being a Christian does NOT mean you always have to take it on the chin.
I was agreeing with you. I figure sarcasm was assumed in my post.
Jesus does not speak in hyperbole, because saying such would imply that he is dishonest.
Since you mentioned John 18, how about this:
[10] Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it, and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And the name of the servant was Malchus.
[11] Jesus therefore said to Peter: Put up thy sword into the scabbard. The chalice which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
So, Father should have acted more like Peter and less like Christ?
But, as far as my last quote, we could also mention these (where the prophecy was fulfilled)
Mark 14:65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him: Prophesy: and the servants struck him with the palms of their hands.
Mark 15:19 And they struck his head with a reed: and they did spit on him. And bowing their knees, they adored him.
Of course, this priest is not acting like Christ, not at all. Just say it’s unbiblical and ignore the Bible is cited...
Better get tested...
Really? You're actually saying that?
Matt 5:29: ..if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee:
Have you ever lusted after another human? Have you ever coveted something owned by someone else? Have you ever looked at someone with hatred? Can you still see? By your logic you were required to literally blind yourself because of your sin. By your logic, all Christians would by now be blind. And without hands as per the passage that follows the above.
We have to stop making excuses for them. I don’t think Jesus expected us to keep turning the other cheek for every situation. Just think about it, if Jesus had ALWAYS turned the other cheek he would not have been crucified. He became a enemy of the power establishment because he took them on, sometimes calling them hypocrites and vipers, which they were. If Jesus had been wimpy, wimpy, wimpy we would not have heard of him today.
This priest was just showing weakness. This is what passes for nicey-nice Christianity. In the home it is called enabling your brat kids.
Parables, which helped people understand the purpose of the message, and hyperbole, statements that inflict falsehoods against the truth, are different.
So yes, I’m actually saying that Jesus doesn’t lie.

He is a priest, not a member of the laity. The standard is a little different. Even so, look at the examples of the martyrs. Such as St Thomas More.
Also, look at the example of St Lawrence (a deacon):
In great anger, the Prefect condemned Lawrence to a slow, cruel death. The Saint was tied on top of an iron grill over a slow fire that roasted his flesh little by little, but Lawrence was burning with so much love of God that he almost did not feel the flames. In fact, God gave him so much strength and joy that he even joked. “Turn me over,” he said to the judge. “I’m done on this side!” And just before he died, he said, “It’s cooked enough now.”

I agree with you completely there is a lot of false sanctimony in Christianity today. Our minds have been effected by liberalism whether we know it or not. How can they not be when we have been exposed to thousands of both subtle and explicit liberal messages everywhere we look. I also think that we need a big dose of masculinity in our culture and in our church. Not sports as an expression of fake masculinity but real masculinity and I am speaking as a woman.
The celebrating gay all the world needs is hugs crowd is so tolerant they take time out to spit on a priest. Yet, it’s the conservatives who are full of hate.
You are calling the Bible hyperbole?
Eccliastes 3 —
“A time for peace and a time for war.”
I don’t believe the priest showed hate in this incident.
No, please re-read. The post I was referring to is calling the Bible hyperbole.
Someone is a drug addict.
Who really loves him, the person who enables his drug addiction or the person who gets him to rehab?
Ah, but you haven’t heard the spitters’ version. By the time they’ve told it the priest will have brought down fire and brimstone, thrown a Bible at them and sprinkled them with holy water.
Ha
It wasnt spitting on a priest. But it was the same idea.
Yes, now I know how to describe how I feel when I see the White House lit up like a GAY RAINBOW.
