I don’t have an issue with the priest turning his cheek; however, it would have been more effective if he let the man know that he must repent or face the judgment of God.

Two men walked by and spat on me. Oh well… I deserve worse.

Unfortunate comment. The spitters and their ilk need no encouragement to justify their filthy behavior, nor any excuse to generalize the notion that members of the priesthood going about their business "deserve" to be victims of assault and battery.

I guess those two men did not know that Fr. Jonathan has said on Fox & FRiends more than once, for full disclosure, that his own sister is gay, and is in a relationship.

....The two men who spat on me are probably very good man caught up in excitement and past resentment. Most in that parade would not do that...

With due respect, Father, that’s B.S.!!!!

Phony sanctimony.

I agree with you there. There was no reason to say that they were "probably good guys." He doesn't know that, and there's certainly no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt.

There is nothing in scripture that justifies such an attitude. Yes, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said turn the other cheek. But that was hyperbole.

I think it's more about bearing insults, like being slapped in the face. We are to bear insults, but not physical attacks. We have a right to defend ourselves.

In this case, being vastly outnumbered, it wouldn't be prudent to try to defend yourself. But there's no reason to make excuses for their behavior.

How about the verses that describe loving your enemies and not just loving your friends?

True love is willing the best for someone, and acting on that. Sometimes the loving thing to do is to reprove, and sometimes the loving thing to do is to avoid breaking the bruised reed.

In this case, reproof seems to be more in order.

Can a Christian go to war?

“Blessed be the Lord my rock, who teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight”.

Psalm 144

What would Jesus do? He might remember what God did to the city of Sodom, and suggest turning the other cheek.

Hyperbole, parables, figures of speech are all tools which the Lord used.

For you to equate such to lies is disingenuous and ignorant. Jesus said to turn the other cheek. Jesus did not turn the other cheek. Jesus does not lie. Therefore Jesus was using hyperbole to illustrate a point.

The point was (and, if you knew your Bible, you might know this) that the Jews had been misusing "an eye for an eye" for centuries. That's the misconception He was correcting.

Spend less time posting about things of which you obviously know very little, and more time actually reading.

Either way, I'm through with this thread. I think you're one of those people who refuse to be confused by facts.
