We are the modern-day Nineveh which was the most corrupt and immoral city of its day. The prophet Jonah, against his will, went to Nineveh under orders from God and warned the citizens that they had forty days until their utter destruction at the hands of God. To their credit, they repented and wearing sackcloth and ashes, cried out to God begging His forgiveness. In His mercy, He spared them.
Jesus tells the scribes and Pharisees that the only sign He will give them is the sign of Jonah who was in the belly of the great fish for three days, signifying His own death, burial and resurrection.
Then, He says this:
The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. Matthew 12:41
We have the examples of Christ and the prophets. We have Holy Scripture. We have the Holy Spirit whom Jesus sent to us. Yet, we do not repent as a nation and, instead, increase and applaud our own vile and wicked ways.
Jesus Himself says that the wicked, corrupt men of Nineveh who repented will rise up and condemn US during our judgment!
We should certainly prepare, but not just with bullets, beans and band-aids. We should prepare our hearts to receive our Lord who, I am convinced, will rain down His righteous judgment on this nation, not just for our sin, but for our sneering defiance of His Truth.
Nevertheless I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you.
No excuses; no more lies.
Jonah would be thrown in jail today for ‘hate speech’.
On a related note, last year ISIS destroyed the supposed tomb of Jonah.
Rhetorical question ....
With all those who have tried to patchwork biblical prophecy into the present time, from Hal lindsey and his 17th revision, forward ...
Supposing Jonah was one of those ‘two guys’ some folks talk about?
But, I've listened to it over a lifetime, and it has internalized, for me.
Sometimes I'll be reading a news report and it's like I hear the bumper music to a song I know like the Pope and his climate obsession. It's a tune I've heard. I can't say the where, how or when, but something feels like a coming storm.
Watch out for the UN, for instance, and Israel this year. Watch for the new moon in September. Fill your lamps with oil.
I agree. Biblical “end-time” prophecy pertains to Israel. We here in the USA see tough times coming for US and everybody wants to cry “Jesus MUST be coming soon!”
I fear that we in the USA will suffer for who knows HOW long for the things we have allowed and are allowing now. Years ago I heard Hal Lindsey say that the US is nowhere mentioned in Bible prophecy; which means at that time, we are either a 3rd world nation or we are annhilated.
In light of current US events, I’d bet the farm that it’s the former.
When ISRAEL starts behaving like we are now, committing their own suicide, THEN I’d say Jesus’ return is soon.
Perversions are on parade. We sacrifice our children to the idols of pleasure. This is the tune I recognize, the "cup of abomination" we so eagerly drink.
I do think we have enjoyed God's blessings because this nation started with prayerful leadership, that asked for God's help in forming our government. That is why we enjoyed years of blessing, and why the forces of evil wormed their way into our government.
Israel isn't behaving like the US -- it's behaving worse.
I always thought Obama was “judgement light” on America for her sins. I have a feeling “judgement heavy” is still yet to happen.
It’s totally speculation - but I believe it will be Elijah and Enoch. They’re the only two in the Bible that didn’t die - but were simply taken up into Heaven to be with God. In Hebrews it states “It is appointed unto Man once to die, and then the judgment.” I.e., Everyone has their day to die. So - these to miracle-working, repentance-preaching Godly men - God will bring them back - to preach repentance and perform miracles - and then the AntiChrist will kill them. Then God will take them up into Heaven before all the World watching on CNNABCNBCCBSFOXBBC.
Just a thought.
Jesus told us that as in the days of Noah, so it would be in the end.
And those were the days where the thoughts of all the people were only evil continually, all the time.
Seems like we’re there, aside from His body of born again believers.
I hesitate to say church because so many people think denominationalism.
dear manzelle,
“You mean, the Road to Emaus?”
Nope, not to emaus, bali, nowhere, end of the line, none of that.
“Sometimes I’ll be reading a news report and it’s like I hear the bumper music to a song I know like the Pope and his climate obsession. It’s a tune I’ve heard. I can’t say the where, how or when, but something feels like a coming storm.”
I like that, Mamzelle, and can relate.
I don’t think we do. We don’t matter much in the end-times prophecies, it seems. We’re just one of the ‘lands of the coast’ I think.
Jesus has always put Israel up against everyone else without any other help but Him.
Why would He change that now? All we are is an example of what happens when you start out putting Him at the head of your army in one age, and then denying you every knew Him in another?
If we’re lucky, we die quick, or for some reason become refugees.
I’d like to hear some FReeper opinions on this man Obama as “the man of lawlessness” or a type of that. I heard Robert Jeffress liken Obama’s swooping in on a cloud of false worship to what Antichrist would be “like”, but he would not say that Obama WAS Antichrist.
Since Obama could well be from the Middle East, might he reappear on the world stage through the U.N. as a coronated Sec. General? I definitely can envision the evil lurking behind that fake persona, seeing it reveal at some point...perhaps when the Restrainer is taken out of the way?
Every approach to prophesy has to be a personal one, and knowing a teacher is fallible is part of the understanding.
I think there have already been Antichrists, satanic haters of humanity. Whether there will be "The" Antichrist, I do not have a clue, nor do I believe there will be any "one" actor at the end. There are several characters the False Prophet, the Man of Lawlessness, the Man of "Peace", and finally the Great Whore, the Beast, the Dragon and a few many-headed monsters. Some lump these all into one, and the Great Whore is supposedly a metaphor.
I'm inclined to take things literally unless I have a good reason not to. There sure are a lot of wh*res around. Look at the woman at the head of the IMF, the Federal Reserve. Who would have thought the heads of all these global banks would be women? Revelation mentions great merchants and nations of wealth.
And I catch things like a shadow in my peripheral vision, and I feel a sense of coldness like someone walking over my grave. Particularly I remember the Democrat convention in 2012 when the audience shouted a rejection of God, and of Israel, *three* times. Go back and watch it. Three times. Pride parades, probably more obscene than anything in Sodom, have roped in the Boy Scouts.
