A lot of countries already have a drastic shortage of women. A few are short of men due to war and/or emigration. One of my Salvadoran friends said her peers in El Salvador often married much younger men, because so many of their generation - my age or a few years younger - had been killed or exiled.

Her husband was more than ten years younger than she, and given the age of their children, she must have snapped him up right out of high school.

I've read that 1/3 of the population of El Salvador already lives in the USA, and that we will soon have 2/3 of Puerto Rico living in the continental-48-USA. Of course, Puerto Ricans are American citizens, but it's still (culturally and demographically) a huge displacement of peoples --- and those who make the move are disproportionately young males.

And think of who's left behind: aging parents/grandparents, people who are somewhat older than young and frailer than vigorous, and all too often wife or GF #1 and the kids.
