The text doesn’t say anything like that. He doesn’t refer to a sin that “has led to death” but a “sin that leads to death”, present tense.
The usual suspects have self identified as not Christian, the best thing is to simply ignore any of their snarky comments.
Think carefully. He's not writing to unbelievers, he's writing to the church.
I think she forgot to put the caucus designation. I was wondering too. Peace.
Um, aren’t you conflating two ‘churches’? There is the Church Jesus established which is a spiritual entity also known as His Bride and The Body of Christ, then there is the institutional church by which Roman Catholicism claims empowerment among men.
Holy Mackerel...It doesn’t matter what some of your church fathers supposedly said...What does God say about it??? You got anything???
Can't you explain the Catholic view without sending people down a rabbit hole???
I am not trying to herd the posters. Maybe Salvation can show you something?
Christ Himself quoted scripture often When He was no longer with us in the flesh it was necessary for the New Testament to be written all scripture is God breathed, again until we see Christ face to face His written Word is the final authority That is my fundamental belief you can state yours all you want but It does not change my confidence in Scripture as Gods inspired word. And this belief is shared by a multitude of professing Christians
They don’t care if we are “saved” they are care if they win the argument.
Problem is we are winning.
LOL
The peace of Christ be with you also
The Bible......oh yeah, that's the book that the Catholics originated, copied (by hand), preserved for 2,000 years and presented to us so that we might know that Jesus even existed.....No one else was there to do it.
You are welcome at the Catholic Church.
There You can have the whole story.
How did Jesus teach us - by oral tradition - by example, by preaching and by discussing with His Apostles.
The Apostles continued this oral tradition of preaching, talking with people and example. This was passed on to their successors and to the public.
Even today there are readings from the Bible at every Mass and in the sacraments, preached from the pulpit and in talks or meetings with bishops, priests, nuns and lay persons.
So you can have the whole story.
Oh now that ends it. This is all just an argument for you folks? Well then, if we aren’t arguing we will just let you have whatever. I was under the mistaken impression it was an open thread. Sorry, See ya.
It depends on the rabbit? LOL!!!!! Don’t lose your cool now. Peace to Iscool.
The only one who wins is the one who stands in Christ. That is the one who is truly saved I was unaware this was a contest I see it more as an opportunity to speak truth. The only vote or approval I care about is that of my Lord.
The integral part of sincerely accepting the free and unmerited gift of salvation is likewise accepting the teachings Christ gave and the Church He made to give them through.
Do notice that the text nowhere says they received the Holy Spirit then. At most, Jesus tells them to. when we put aside our doctrinal biases and simply let Scripture interpret Scripture, we discover that the Apostles did not receive the Holy Spirit at this point in time rather they received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
As is written..."He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified." (John 7:39) And again here...."But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but... "if I go, I will send Him to you."(John 16:7)
And even here when gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for what the Father had promised,..... "Which," He said,.... "you heard of from Me; .... for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now... but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." (Acts 1:4-5,8)
Therfore His breathing on them was not a giving of the Holy Spirit but 'a symbol of that promise', so, too, is the 'authority' Jesus gives them 'not given' until Pentecost since that authority requires the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.......
The context simply is not what was happening at that moment, but what would happen at Pentecost, when the Apostles would be given that which was required to powerfully proclaim the gospel to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem.
Think carefully. He's not writing to unbelievers, he's writing to the church.
Agreed! This passage refers to sin(s) that lead to immediate physical death. Point is, mortal sin, so called, in this passage does not refer to sins of a believer that subsequently results in eternal damnation, but rather results in temporal death.
However, if, as you may assert, it refers to eternal death, then we are NOT to pray about it.
think carefully.
