The Catholic Church indeed does have indulgences, but no money is ever exchanged.

Well then, Boogieman couldn’t make any money selling something that is being given away could he!

Well, Jim, I tried. I thought I would post a simple piece and see if the non-Catholics could just let it be. It appears that for any sane communication to happen, we will have to post something simple like this as a Catholic Caucus or Catholic/Orthodox Caucus.

It didn’t work. Please lock the thread.

“no money is ever exchanged.

I don’t know if that is true today or not, but I know for sure that hasn’t always been the case. St. Peter’s Basilica stands as a testament to the sale of indulgences.

Beginning in 1517 the Catholic Church came up with a way for making money an indulgent could be bought from the Church that sent you straight to heaven.... You could buy them for your family and for those of your family who were in purgatory, and they also sent to heaven, no matter what you had done while alive..... Pope Leo X had John Tetzel sell them to rebuild St. Peter’s in the latest Renaissance style.

Today the catholic church does accept “donations” intermingled with forgiveness but is not expressly stated....rather like naming a need sufficient to prompt the donation.
