Claiming to be Christian and wanting to defend Christians seems a bit higher up the scale than "pride" and what the hell does the "protests too much" crap have to do with the article? Or is it just to demonstrate that you have talked with someone who is well read? The contextual phrase doesn't mean what you seem to think it means. Besides - the "methinks" comes after the main statement.
