“The Gates of Hell shall not prevail against the Catholic Church.”

For the record, Mt 16:18
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

“My church does not mean only the “Catholic Church”.

If we are in the End Times, and many believe we are, the important thing to keep in mind is to stay true to God’s word and steer clear from those that sow confusion. I don’t think that pope F. is a good influence on believers; he is leading the flock astray into the hand of those that want to establish a one world totalitarian religious, political, economic, and cultural world order.

Good shepherds may come and go, but the Gates of Hell shall not prevail against the Catholic Church, the Church founded under the leadership of St. Peter.

Interesting. He made some rather forceful statements with authority, and will now change it when he comes to the US.

That begs a rather large question... What is the correct statement?

I don’t think Francis will do that.

I have worked with a lot of people from Argentina. The view their is that the majority of the economic ills are caused by the stupid rich people in the USA. They have been cheering him in the hopes it leads to the US going full socialist, and giving them more money.

I couldn’t agree with you more; I give very little to my parish. Until the Church wants to take the lead in moral issues (at least spreading their official message), I saw very little reason to donate while I’m struggling financially. When they embraced all-out socialism, they lost me completely; I have sacramental responsibilities and little else. In my area they push targeted scholarship programs (subsidizing Catholic education for minorities while closing schools in middle-class areas), and in terms of economic justice until they address the obvious injustice in affirmative action programs they are irrelevant. Let them get their money from the preferred minorities getting the set-aside educational opportunities, jobs, and promotions.

That scripture quotation is usually misinterpreted by Catholics anyway. It refers to salvation through baptism (ie: thru the divine Church), not to some indestructability of the historical church on earth.

Exactly.

There are aloes questions as to whether Peter was in Rome, died in Rome or was buried in Rome. The donation of Constantine supposedly establishing the primacy of the Roman Church above all others is also very suspect.

Anything that cannot be supported by the Bible is simply a part of “Tradition”. Most of the theology regarding Mary has been invented (Mary as the co-redeemer as if this was needed) and confirmed by “infallible” Popes as unquestioned dogma.

Just to clarify, Mary as “co-redeemer” is not Church dogma (Church teaching). Some people advocate for it, as is their right, as it is not objectionable, but no Catholic is required by the Faith to adhere specifically to the idea of co-redeemer.

FYI, there are only 4 Marian dogmas, they are:

Immaculate Conception
Virgin Birth (”perpetual virginity”)
Assumption
Theotokos
