Progressive Exultation: "This Pope Will Get His Will Done at the Synod"
Rorate Caeli ^ | August 6, 2015

Posted on 08/08/2015 5:20:11 PM PDT by ebb tide

Who better than Alberto Melloni, the leader of the most "advanced" progressive wing of the Church in Italy and of the Bologna School of interpretation of Vatican II than to present what the Pope has in mind for the "Family" Synod of October 2015 (also known as the "Sex Synod")?

Some nervous months and years ahead as Catholic doctrine from the very mouth of Our God and Lord Jesus Christ on Marriage and Family is shaken to the core.

The Pontiff’s new move against the rigorists

Alberto Melloni

Corriere della Sera

August 6, 2015

Pope Francis did not confer on the Synod of Bishops deliberative powers nor authority over his agenda, nor ‘work periods’ which would give them collegial dignity. However, he assigned to the Synod a tenor of “parresia” – a word from the New Testament indicating frankness in speaking – which disturbs those who envisage a sluggishly conformist and naturally conservative Catholicism.

At the next Synod which will continue the discussion on the family and families, the “parresia” will [have] become total. No second-class theologians, but the Prefect of the Congregation for the Faith in person, has launched a rising “alzamiento” which has also involved cardinals in good faith against what the traditionalists present as a “slackening of discipline”. On the other hand, many extremely prudent prelates have also intervened and who “yield” or “question themselves” when faced with people - wounded by life - but who have not ceased wanting to be Christians. La Civiltà Cattolica has intervened with some essays expressing the Secretary of State’s opinion on the issue.

Additionally, the Pope has also intervened on many occasions but yesterday with tones that “reached the peak” of Francis’ ‘meek severity’. The formal affirmation - according to him - that the divorced and remarried are not excommunicated, presented in the “Bergoglio-style” of a solicitous catechist, touches an essential point. And that is - the statute of rigorism. The rigorists have always excited the admiration of the atheist and the lustful: they seem to be like those who impose “unavoidable” burdens” on the backs of people, and are able to do so since “they are not looking for the applause” of the obviously sinful and weary masses.

The condemnation of the rigorists in the Church has always been hard but very clear: in 325 AD, at the First Council of Nicaea, the great Church excommunicated, as it says in Canon 8, the so called “Purists” and sanctioned that those who didn’t give Communion to the digamists, be excluded from the Eucharist.

Yesterday, Pope Francis revived the excommunication of the rigorists in his own style: i.e. by saying that the divorced are not excommunicated, means that whoever treats them as excommunicated, is not one who defends marriage, but one who doesn’t understand the Eucharist.

If somebody has been thinking of intimidating the Pope, by expecting a “battle” at the Synod, they have either got the wrong picture or the wrong Pope.

O Lord, we are the millions of believers, humbly kneeling at Thy feet and begging Thee to preserve, defend and save the Sovereign Pontiff for many years. He is the Father of the great fellowship of souls and our Father as well. On this day, as on every other day, he is praying for us also, and is offering unto Thee with holy fervoUr the sacred Victim of love and peace.
Wherefore, O Lord, turn Thyself toward us with eyes of pity; for we are now, as it were, forgetful of ourselves, and are praying above all for him. Do Thou unite our prayers with his and receive them into the bosom of Thine infinite mercy, as a sweet savor of active and fruitful charity, whereby the children are united in the Church to their Father. All that he asks of Thee this day, we too ask it of Thee in union with him.
whether he weeps or rejoices, whether he hopes or offers himself as a victim of charity for his people, we desire to be united with him; nay more, we desire that the cry of our hearts should be made one with his. Of Thy great mercy grant, O Lord, that not one of us may be far from his mind and his heart in the hour that he prays and offers unto Thee the Sacrifice of Thy blessed Son. At the moment when our venerable High Priest, holding in His hands the very Body of Jesus Christ, shall say to the people over the Chalice of benediction these words: “The peace of the Lord be with you always,” grant, O Lord, that Thy sweet peace may come down upon our hearts and upon all the nations with new and manifest power.
Amen

What is an “American Catholic”?

I’m a Roman Catholic.

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

I don't care for the term "Roman Catholic" --- which, to my ears, makes it sound like a "localized" (like "Ukrainian Orthodox" or "Church of Finland")(though I don't fault the people who use this term.)

I'm Catholic. Just Catholic. That's it.

I find it quite amusing that you quote a prayer composed by Pope Leo XIII, and ordered to be prayed after all Low Masses until "blessed" Paul VI ordered its removal.

Are you even aware of Pope Leo XIII's vision?

If you are aware of it, do you not see that vision being realized?

Suit yourself.

I’m proud to claim the title of Roman Catholic to identify myself as being in union with St Peter and all of his successors.

If you want to commingle with the Orthodox, go for it!

No, no, no, no, no.

That was just my point, heavens-to-murgatroyd. The Orthodox churches give the unfortunate appearance of being "national churches" ("Ukrainian Orthodox", etc.)

The term "Roman Catholic" didn't even come into general use until it was invented by Anglicans, who used to term the Catholic Church the "Italian Mission" and minimizingly called its adherents "Roman Catholics" --- thus entitling them (the Anglicans) to call themselves "Anglo-Catholics.")

Nyet, nix, ningun cosa. I'm Catholic tout court.

I don't mind those who call themselves "Roman Catholic" to emphasize --- as you said --- that we're in communion with the Bishop of Rome. But I like my "Catholic" plain because in some ways any local modifier makes it appear to be an automatic oxymoron: "Roman Catholic" is like "narrowly universal" or "superficially profound" or "include me out".

No offense to you, my dear ebb tide.

Pius XII stated unequivocally: “To be Christian one must be Roman. One must recognize the oneness of Christ’s Church that is governed by one successor of the Prince of the Apostles who is the Bishop of Rome, Christ’s Vicar on earth” (Allocution to the Irish pilgrims of October 8, 1957).

Since the Synod has absolutely no teaching authority, it is entirely possible that the Synod will teach heresy. The Pope is CLEARLY doing everything he can to ensure that it does.

If the Pope is a believing Catholic, he knows that if he tries to teach—definitely—that Catholics in the state of mortal sin are at liberty to receive Communion—he will be struck dead by the Holy Spirit. So, he is trying to get the Synod to teach it.

The majority of bishops ALREADY teach that Catholics in the state of mortal sin are at liberty to receive Communion. They teach this by giving Communion to Nancy Pelosi.

Agreed.

“As a practicing and respectful Catholic, this is sacred ground to me when we talk about this,” Pelosi said about efforts to stop late-term abortions. “This shouldn’t have anything to do with politics.”

Don’t expect coherence from the witch. She shrieks like a banshee if someone mentions the teaching of the Church on abortion, but she has repeatedly condemned anyone who wants to cut the rate of increase of the rate of increase of the rate of increase of any entitlement as “bad Christians,” etc.

That is true, but if it comes out for divorce and cohabitation, it will be viewed as authoritative.

In 20 years you will have people on FR or its successor arguing that that is the Faith, and must be obeyed.
