I myself am not a “young earther”. I’m not “not” a young earther either. The bible is intentionally ambiguous about it. Unlike most of the events in the bible, Genesis was handed down from God. The writer was far, far removed from it and especially the part before man was created.

Heck, the Hebrew word translated “day” really means “heat”.

The new testament book of Hebrews refers to this part of Genesis as, “these things which are allegory”.

Please cite your reference for that quotation.

Perfect genetics, and I mean absolutely PERFECT genetics, were present in Adam and Eve, who were essentially male and female “clones”.

And then some liberal introduced integration, assimilation and diversity after which all hell broke loose............

Funny.. but there were no other people to integrate with or be “diverse” with.

Agreed. More specifically, as Dr. Ross points out:

* Those who lived many hundreds of years were vegetarians, as God wished. Meat-eaters presumably died younger, from the accumulation of metals in their bodies. After the Flood, God permitted the faithful to become carnivorous (Gen. 9:2-3), which dramatically shortens lifespans from several hundred years to only one or two hundred.

* Early Mankind lived in the alluvial plain in Mesopotamia, which is largely devoid of rocks, and did not spread out. Had they lived amidst rocky granitic or basaltic soil, radioactive elements would have shortened lifespans.

* Cosmic radiation from nearby supernovae shortened lifespans.

Life spans are greater now than 150 years ago.

Are we moving toward a more righteous life as a whole?

I thought it was in Hebrews but in review it was in Galatians 4.

OK. Keep going. Galatians 4 ... what verse(s)?

(It shouldn't be this hard.)

Agamemnon is not the only one breathlessly awaiting your documentation. Oh, sure, we have our own well-thumbed Bibles, but we’re eager to hear exactly what yours says.

There is no reason to believe any different than what the bible tells us. Are we saying, we believe God created the universe by speaking it into existence. We believe God came as a human and gave up his life for our sins, and was raised from the dead 3 days later, and we believe He healed the deaf and the lame. And we believe that God, this creator loves us and takes care of us.... but you know... just can’t believe people had 900 year lifespans before the great flood? Really?

You’re kidding aren’t you? The allegory is understanding that we are being made “children of the free woman”... not “children of the bond woman.” It has nothing to do with weather or not the events in Genesis are literal or not.

On the contrary these early books of Moses contained the “law of Moses”. Jesus specifically said that these were the laws of men and not of God”.

Absolutely false.

Some of the comments on this thread are hilarious. I just can’t believe that in the space age we cling to bronze age beliefs. It just boggles my mind.

2Pe 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
2Pe 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
2Pe 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
2Pe 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

I recommend that you re-read the Scriptures a little more carefully. In the example you just cited, the Lord Jesus was talking about the traditions that the Pharisees (and other Religious folk) and piled onto the Scriptures (e.g., needing to wash the inside of the cup; creating rules that you didn't have to give money that you promised your parents if you claimed it was 'korban' (set aside for future temple donations), etc) - but Scripture itself is unbroken. From the Sermon on the Mount:

Matthew 5:17-18 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

And of course the Lord's references to the Flood, and God having made man and woman (Adam and Eve) from the Beginning.

I always figured it was because originally, God designed Adam to live forever

Only by eating of the "tree of life." Once they sinned, God forbade that:

"And the LORD God said, 'The man has now become like one of us,
knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand
and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.'
So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden
to work the ground from which he had been taken."
Genesis 3:22-23

I’ve wondered if such an obvious cataclysm that could produce the Biblical flood didn’t slow the orbit of earth and the rotation of it, making a day and a year longer in real time.

Wonder no more:

1. The Flood was not such a cataclysm as you suppose, not being "global" but only "world-wide"--that is, the world of men at that time, as is fully supported scripturally.

2. To achieve life-spans ten times "longer" than currently, the Earth would be revolving ten times faster. The only life that could survive the resulting hellish conditions, with surface winds at 1,000 mph, would be microscopic. In fact, originally the Earth did spin much faster, four billion years ago, and that was the only life present, at 3.85 bya. It was the moon's braking effect over those four billion years that finally slowed the Earth to its present rate. At the time of Adam and Eve, c. 50,000 years ago, the Earth might have rotated 0.1% faster than now, no more.

Generally, we are supposed to take the Bible literally unless it clearly indicates otherwise. In the Galatians 4 passage you cited, it discussed two real people, Hagar and Sarah, whose stories are literally true. However, in addition, Paul tells us to also see them figuratively: representing the covenant of Law, Hagar the bond woman, of Mt. Sinai and the earthly Jerusalem; vs. she who represents the covenant of Grace, Sarah the free woman, of the heavenly Jerusalem.

The Galatians passage says nothing about patriarchal life-spans, which therefore we can and should take literally. Allow me to suggest that you put down your Kaballah, which is of Sinai, and pick up your two-testament Bible, which is of heaven.
