Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Character Studies From The Bible
Daniel
17 To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.
18 At the end of the time set by the king to bring them into his service, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar. 19 The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the kings service. 20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.
21 And Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus..

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
From reading this account of Daniel, one can infer that he and his companions maintained their integrity all through the three year "training period" of their captivity. It must have been very difficult, as the Babylonians attempted to strip them of every part of their identity, including their names! In this part of the story, they are all still referred to by their Hebrew names, which would indicate that, even during this time of "brainwashing", they did not give up on their God.
Not only did they not lose their faith, they prospered, flourished, and advanced in wisdom and trustworthiness far beyond the Magicians and Wise Men of the Royal Court. Daniel was said to even be able to interpret dreams and signs.
Daniel and his friends were youths of noble character, from good families, and educated, but that was not what caused them to grow in stature. Many brilliant and noble people, when faced with suffering, do not pass the testing. They rely upon their own prowess, and, failing in that, crumble into despair, or capitulate to the enemy. It is much easier to just "go along to get along".
It was the Faith of Daniel and the others that sustained them, nurtured them, protected them, and elevated them in the eyes of Babylon.
And it's the same today.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
