I would say that depiction is very much the minority in the Catholic church. Lots of rules, regulations and expectations that create guilt are all the opposite of what Christ calls us to.
The litmus test is whether you feel completely loved by Jesus if you did NOTHING.
There's no Scriptural "litmus test" that has ANYTHING to do with your "feelings".
