Vatican: ‘Pope Francis’ meeting with Kim Davis not a show of support

The Vatican says Pope Francis’ meeting with Kim Davis “should not be considered a form of support of her position.”

Kim Davis, the Rowan County clerk who became a grassroots conservative hero after refusing to issue gay marriage licenses, was one of “several dozen” individuals invited by the Vatican ambassador to meet with Francis at the embassy in Washington last week, said spokesman Federico Lombardi.

“The Pope did not enter into the details of the situation of Mrs. Davis and his meeting with her should not be considered a form of support of her position in all of its particular and complex aspects,” Lombardi said in a statement.

He added: “The only real audience granted by the Pope at the Nunciature was with one of his former students and his family.”

Davis spent five September days in jail for defying a court order to issue same-sex marriage licenses following this year’s landmark Supreme Court ruling. Social conservatives, including 2016 GOP presidential candidates Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, rallied to her cause.

Huckabee was among those who applauded news of her meeting with Francis when it broke earlier this week.

“While the media elites were slobbering all over themselves because Pope Francis commented on climate change, the pope was having a quiet and powerful meeting with a humble Apostolic county clerk from Kentucky,” Huckabee said Tuesday.

An unnamed Vatican official told Reuters there was a “sense of regret” within the Holy See over the meeting.

So, does that mean the Pope does support gay marriage?

So he heard that she was a democrat and some kind of activist who went to jail over gay marriage and jumped to conclusions?

According to her Attorney the Pope paid for a room and arranged transportation to meet the Pope.

Sorry if I upset any Catholics here but if the Pope is embarrassed by Kim Davis stance that is the same as Catholic teachings, then what does the Pope stand for in his Religion.

My apologies to Catholics also, but this “man” is a gutless POS.

But we do not hold it against you; “we” elected a poor “leader” for the USA also (even though no FReeper votes for the squirrely POS)

The MSM (and that, unfortunately, includes the Vatican Press Office, i.e. Lombardi and Rosica) are doing everything possible to efface, erase, make "disappear" the Pope's support for Kim Davis and her courageous act of resistance against gay marriage.

And yet the Pope initiated the meeting with Kim Davis, according to Austin Ruse writing at Breitbart (LINK),----

And Inside the Vatican's Robert Moynihan (LINK) says the Pope had Kim Davis' situation in mind when he repeatedly stated (during the flight back to Rome) his explicit support of conscientious objection, even in the case of public officials (like Kim Davis) who refuse to cooperate with an unjust law.

I think what we have here is a small group of obstinately honest men (Moynihan, Ruse, the Breitbart organization) standing up against a cabal of devious cardsharps (AP, Reuters, etc.) --- and I'm choosing to believe the former.

Am I wrong?

>>Am I wrong?

Sadly, you are not wrong. There are people who infest every organization who will do anything, say anything, destroy anyone to advance the Progressive Agenda.

Do enough digging and most of them have ties to homosexuality, either themselves or in a child or children.

If Francis doesn’t know Davis’ situation, why did Davis say he said to her, “thank you for your courage”? Did he really say that to her or not? The pope did speak of “conscientious objection” as a “human right” on the plane in response to a question from ABC’s Terry Moran.

The statement released from the Vatican is a public relations debacle.

What really happened here? I’ll stay tuned but I suspect the original story is true. Francis knows Davis’ situation and offered her words of support and solidarity. Is this being backed away from now because the climate changers are flipping out over the meeting?

When John Paul arrived at the Denver airport in 93, he started talking about abortion with Clinton not ten feet from him.

Remember Mother Teresa talking about abortion as the greatest destroyer of peace at the 94 National Prayer Breakfast while the Clintons and Gores were seated on stage?

Do as Francis constantly asks and pray for him. And remember some of Benedict’s first words as Pope in 2005:

“Pray for me that I don’t flee for fear of the wolves.”
