Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Character Studies From The Bible
John the Baptist
1 The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah,the Son of God, 2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
I will send my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way
3 a voice of one calling in the wilderness,
Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.
4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 6 John wore clothing made of camels hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.
7 And this was his message: After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I baptize you with[e] water, but he will baptize you with[f] the Holy Spirit.
(Mark 1)

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Today we look at the same event as yesterday, but from the viewpoint of Mark. Mark is sometimes called "The Action Gospel", as the author spends more time with presenting facts and actions (such as miracles), and fewer words for parables and teaching. This contrasts with Luke and John, but harmonizes quite well with Matthew. Matthew, Mark, and Luke, however, can be lined up in columns and harmonized to form a seamless eyewitness narrative. That is why they are called the "Synoptic Gospels". The differences are merely viewpoints and style and do not affect the Message. John's Gospel also agrees, but goes deeper into Theology and The Nature of God.
That is why today's Passage bears a strong resemblance to yesterday's. Tomorrow, we will see how Luke handles this exact same event.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM! And for the Preservation of the Valiant Israeli Nation!
"St. John The Baptist Preaching" Mattia Preti c. 1665

HE beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. |
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem, for the protection of the people in Israel against terror attacks, for those who mourn this day as a result, may they find the comfort needed in the Messiah, bring forth gentle souls that will lead them to this this truth, praying for our own families and friends, for those who are severely persecuted and the families of the martyrs, for our nations to lift our eyes from whence our help comes...In Yeshua (Jesus) Name, Amen....In His Name the nations will hope...Matth. 12:21
