They like to claim that no one could read so they can justify the Church from withholding Scripture from the laity.

Good grief, the only bibles in existence at the time were precious hand written (by Monks)virtually no one other than royalty, ultra-wealthy, and libraries could afford them.....Just how could the church have gotten them to the laity?....They did try somewhat through statues, pictures, stained glass windows and the like, but of course the revolutionists busted up most of that stuff.....sigh, read a history book please.

You really have not a clue do you! Right in the epistles there is the direction to share the letters with the believers! Even if only one or two in an ekklesia could read the Greek the others could listen. Really, old man, you should try to make halfway intelligent assertions, even if you can’t stand the truth.

A Catholic history book??? Shirley you jest...

There weren't any Catholic monks around at that time because there were no Catholics...Druids, maybe...

For 300 years the disciples were copying the scriptures as fast as they could and they were being passed around the churches of the Mid-East...300 Years...That's quite a stretch of time...People were copying and others were learning to read from the scriptures...
