Pope Francis has called on Catholic leaders to seek a ban on the death penalty exclaiming that 'Thou shall not kill applies to the guilty as well as the innocent'.
Speaking to thousands at St. Peter's Square, in the Vatican, the Pontiff asked politicians around the world to make 'a courageous and exemplary gesture' during the Church's current Holy Year.
He said: 'I appeal to the consciences of those who govern to reach an international consensus to abolish the death penalty...

The Hebrew word translated as “kill” in Exodus 20:13 and Deuteronomy 5:17 (in most, but not all Bible translations) is Hebrew “ratsach”, which means “murder”. Carrying out a death penalty is not murder.
Someone should tell Dope Frances that the Fifth Commandment is “Thou Shalt Not Murder” not “Thou Shalt Not Kill”.
The Bible is quite clear that the death penalty is fine.

Well, since the Bible actually says Thou shall not Murder, all the pope is doing is showing how ignorant or deceitful he is.

And of course much of the rest of the law given to the Hebrews called on the death penalty to be carried out for things like murder.
I just looked it up in the “Living Bible”, It in fact says “you shall not murder”. Executing a killer is not murder.
That is amazing. The correct translation is “Thou shall not murder.”

I understand that ”Thou shall not murder” is a better translation.
With all due respect to the Pope, he is not making the connection that if G-d had meant for us not to kill, then there would have been no way for the ancient Israelites to comply with the Levitical laws prohibiting sex outside traditional marriage for example, laws which required offenders who broke them to be put to death.

Meanwhile our enemies teach children to kill the infidel and behead people. It would be nice if the Pope got with the program.

The rock star pope strikes again. Nonsense. This is a commandment, the only one, repeated in every book of the Torah. This man is a fraud.
Mr. Pope is so ignorant of Scripture.
It might be because the Catholic church has been making things up for so long that even the “head” of it can’t know Truth.
I think he needs to go venerate/pray to some ‘saint’ that imbues bible knowledge up a person’s butt, because at this point, only an enema will work.
I wonder what the name of that person would be.
